Obvious answer: Mikey and Arum have beef. Mikey sued him, for God's sake. And they continue to talk bad about the other, so it wasn't just a "business is business" sort of thing.

I believe the sole reason was to put himself in position to be the 'A' side against Lomo. I believe he felt Arum would short change him big in that fight and there is really bad blood between him and Arum. By fighting Spence in a big money PPV fight he can say look I sold out an arena with 50,000 people Lomo never did that and i'm the A side in the negotiations.

I believe this is the same exact reason Kell Brook fought Triple G, to put himself in a better position for an Amir Khan fight

Obvious. To avoid Lomachenko, take the pressure off and make money. Spence outboxed Mikey in every range at every level, just imagine what Lomachenko would’ve done to that plodder.

Money. Mikey made a lot of coin with this attempt at ATG status
