Why would Golden Boy put Canelo in with Trout unless they were very, very confident?

    This fight looks very dangerous on paper for Canelo, and as I've said before I actually favor Trout. But Grantland writer Jay Caspian Kang makes a good point:

    "I suppose there’s a chance that Trout’s speed and the sheer volume of his punches slows down the unstoppable Canelo machine, but count me as maybe the only boxing writer out there who doesn’t really buy all the talk that has circulated about Canelo taking the fight against the wishes of his handlers and Golden Boy Promotions. Someone sees a real weakness in Trout that the rest of us who watched him beat Miguel Cotto do not. If Trout’s as dangerous as he seems, there’s no way Golden Boy would risk their big golden Canelo baby at the tender age of 22."

    I too am beginning to believe Trout will do little to prevent Canelo beating on him. Even though he fought Cotto well, there were still times when he looked uncomfortable with his pressure. If Canelo brings the same heat -- a big if, seeing as though his stamina isn't the best -- then I reckon Canelo will put him away. Not to discredit Trout, but it's very possible that he only looked as good as he did against Cotto because he was facing someone who didn't belong in that division.

    Who has Canelo beat to become this monster did I miss something, this is the first legit 154 pound fighter who is also a southpaw with better boxing skills and stamina he will face

    Did you forget that GBP did everything in their power to prevent the fight. Canelo demanded it. Schaefer said trout didn't deserve it

    the monster beat mosley, who after canelo the monster landed a career number of punches shane was still able to throw only 16 less punches in rounds 10-12 than canelo the moster.

    Senior citizen mosley don't count,atleast cotto came off a great fight with mayweather and floyd even said it was his toughest fight.If you remember in the 30 days in may documentary floyd said in his own words cotto almost made him retire,but last time i checked canelo was getting bullied by mosley physically and canelo is horrible fighting backwards.Stop the bs,trout is gonna tko canelo in the 11th from a accumulation of punches and the finish will be trout unloading a combination on canelo while he's on the ropes and his corner will stop it.

    Golden Boy have matched their fighters hard in the past, resulting in several losses. I don't think this match-up is the result of them seeing some flaw in Trout and deciding to exploit it.

    As far as I remember, Golden Boy didn't want this fight for Alvarez.

    Canelo had to ask for it.

    Schaefer seemed pretty sure it wasn't happening in January. Said Trout needed to do more "to get a fight with Saul Canelo Alvarez".
