Why would Golden Boy put Canelo in with Trout unless they were very, very confident?

Yeah, he needed to emulate the recent achivements of Shane Mosley or Kermit Cintron.

Props to Alvarez on asking for the fight, hopefully he gets friendly judges.

This was probably Canelo wanting to prove he's the best so he wanted it not GBP
Props to him, if he wins he's legit if he loses he can still get better

After all the carefully selected opponents it's finally time to take a risky one and attempt to unify.

Though Trout is a big man he does not fight tall and favors a wider less linear punching style. Moreover, Trout is susceptible to the right hand and should be stopped in the fight as Canelo will catch him with counter rights all night.

When did Canelo ask for this fight? I don't recall that.

Sometimes the fighter gets what he wants. I really dislike articles like these. Because it gives haters the fuel to come back 5 years from now and call this a cherry pick. When thats far from the case.

Al Haymon wanted it. He got Trout the Cotto fight. He got Garcia the Khan fight. Both were expected to lose and or be showcase opponents.

Haymon probably has more pull at GBP than Oscar himself.

This is a 50/50 fight, though I would lean toward Trout.

I like Canelo, but he has not really been tested at all.

That's the popular story. The writer quoted doesn't buy it. I'm not sure I do either.

Golden Boy doesn't protect their fighters as much as you think they do. Despite them wanting to make money, they realize (especially Oscar realizes) that to be the best you got to fight the best.

You can't protect your fighters all the time, you got to go through some of the tough fights to enhance your legacy and monetary worth in the sport and thats what Canelo's doing (and GBP).
