Well, yes, sure, but also, you must admit it's kind of silly to say, "well, he doesn't really, really mean that? Our Joe is so great, he can't possibly want to fight him again!" If he says he wants to, then let's have it. The rematch has legs, and it would clear things up. On the other hand, Joe did win the first fight, no matter how close it was, or how much fans will dispute it; moreover, he's an old man, too, and if he wants to quit on top, then that's his prerogative. (Just as it is for any accomplished boxer, I might add.) (Also, just to note: I'm neither British nor American, so there's no nationalistic prejudices on my part.)
I'll admit to my own words thanks, not yours. I'll admit that it's my opinion that Old Snaggletooth don't want that tempo again. And I'm not judging him harshly with that at all, I have much respect for the legend that is Bernard Hopkins, in fact he is a total inspiration for me of late. He is at the peak of his career now as he sees it, this is his vindication of all the doubters and naysayers. Cement ATG. Think he wants to get off that mountaintop to challenge the relentless Welshman again, knowing he can't keep pace? Knowing he can't knock him out? C'mon now. :blood
Thread should have been titled 'Why would either fight each other again?' It won't happen, neither side wants it at all, and for perfectly valid reasons each. It's been done. Bernard doesn't improve in the rematch anyway, Joe wins easier if anything.
Although I'm not a Calzaghe fan and I don't agree that Hopkins wouldn't want to fight the Welshman again... Much respect to you after this post mate. :thumbsup
