If Louis fought today he'd be the size of Usyk at least and would compete ... he'd be small but the power and speed still exceptional ...

There'd be money in what he'd do to the division.

It wouldn't stop him though, prime Louis would easily put on a better performance than Ngannou

He would definitely be too small but how many people claiming this would pick two inches taller & ten pounds heavier Muhammad Ali to beat them all?

Lets not forget were Joe Louis reborn today, he would have acess to all the advantages, fair or unfair, modern boxers enjoy:
    - Improved nutrition.
    - Better health care.
    - improved physical training and conditioning.
    - And last but not least: PEDs, PEDs everywhere!!!

Yeah, I can imagine the face of the Wlads and the Furies of today, when a Joe Luis roided up to his neck comes swinging and punching WAY ABOVE his size :)

He was a CW who wasn't nearly as successful at HW. Its not that no one his size could succeed at HW I don't think he in particular could succeed at HW today. I think someone like Louis whose a similar size would do better. Usyks doing better.

Yeah, with weight lifting and PED's, he would probably be 220-225.

How could Evander be too small?

He had huge success in a better era.

While I myself already noted the greater wear/tear factor fighting larger opposition on a regular basis, there should also be consideration for the shorter route means of victory that some of us might suppose for Louis as opposed to Usyk’s method for victories.

Due to having to go the distance bar one fight, Olek has had to max out on every feature to his game - and he has also worn a fair measure of punishment along the way, over the full 12 rounds.

The pro feature for a definitive puncher like Louis is that he could also conceivably spare himself a lot of that same wear and tear in given instances.

I'm so glad so many have finally come around to seeing that superior skills can compensate for size disadvantages.
Only a few years ago , on this very site, so many posters were raging at the top of the mountain that Anthony Joshua was an unstoppable force no fighter under two hundred and Five or ten pounds would possibly have a chance against.
Or that Fury was a bigger , better version of Ali.
What a few years, and a few losses and close calls by those two have made!
Joe Louis would be a champion today.
Especially if we could get Joe Louis of his 1940's skill level with today's modern nutrition ( Not so much the training because some of that today is more about body building, than
    boxing)
Imagine how quickly Wilder would lose his aggression everytime he thinks and tilts his weight to his right side to load up his telegraphed right hand, a fighter as skilled as Louis reads it and instinctively beats him to the punch?
    These are the key differences.
Fighters today are thinking about what to do, fighters 30 yrs and more did it instinctive.
It's the hrs in the gym SPARRING ( Not doing squats or bench pressing)
Sparring consistently, because they were fighting 3, 4, 5 times a year and more.
Not once every couple years as seen with most " world class " fighters of today.
Sure something had to change in the sport for today's sensitivities. And the safety of the fighters is 1st and foremost now in most cases .
But because of this fighters today will never reach the skill level of the greats of the past.
They simply wouldn't be allowed to put in that type of time and effort .
Now if we could get Joe Louis's brain into Anthony Joshua's body. Joshua would be undeafeated into his mid 50's lol.
