Why would Miguel Cotto take on such a dangerous threat in Antonio Margarito?

    Dam, I cant wait for this fight. I was watching Mosley hit Cotto with many uppercuts and I just thought to myself, Margo throws a lethal uppercut. If Margo lands, he will continue until Cotto is not conscience. Only way Cotto wins is if he pot shots his way to a UD because if he stays in the pocket Margo will find him and might KO him. This is the fight I wanted to attend the most this year, but **** being in vegas in late july.

    If Cotto is not fighting Margarito . . . then who? It's uncharacteristic for Cotto to refuse any fight.

    This is the right fight and I'm just glad it's happening.

    Cotto has it all to lose, while Margarito has it all to gain. If Cotto loses, the momentum that his career has gathered would be stalled some-what. Talk of a fight with De La Hoya would cool down, while Margarito would put himself right in the frame of facing Oscar on Dec.6

    Cotto is fighting Margarito because he's one of the few fighters around today who is willing to lay it all on the line, fight the best out there, try to prove himself the best by fighting the best. Margarito is the same.

    I have no doubt both guys will give their all - perhaps give too much. I envisage a brutal, absoribng bout, both taking punishment. However, I think Cotto will show more improvement in the fight - Miguel is still only 27. Cotto will box a bit more, use the jab a lot & I reckon he'll surprise Margarito with his handspeed.

    Depending on the fashion Cotto wins by, if he wins at all, where does Miguel rank in the aftermath of a victory?

    It's funny that some people have suggested that the only way for Cotto to defeat Margarito is to be the person he wants to face and beat for the longest time: Floyd Mayweather.

    because cotto wants to fight the best out there IMO,and it is a tough fight,but cotto fights best against good opponents,mosley f.ex,
    and i think he have a really good chance beating margarito,he got the heart,the power,and maybe the skills...GREAT FIGHT!!!

    That part I highlighted sounds like how Pacquiao handled David Diaz on June 28th. If Cotto wins, it will solidify his #1 ranking as a welterweight and it may move him up on the mythical P4P list. According to Emmanuel Steward, Cotto is currently #2 on his list after Pacquiao and ahead of Calzaghe, JMM, and Pavlik in that order.

    Because Cotto doesn't control who he fights ... he doesn't care who he fights ... and because he can box very good.

    Very simple! Miguel Cotto is not stupid. He is a businessman and made sure he got everything he wanted before signing. Margarito lost to Williams and then beat Cintron who is a strong guy but a class C boxer. Margarito needs Cotto to get in the money. Cotto wants money but doesn't need Margarito to get it. Cotto was always very clear. The company wants him to fight Margarito??? He will fight him!!! But the company has to pay the right money. It's business 101!
