Why would Ortiz not take the Joshua fight if offered?

    He's old. He's fought Wilder already. There's nothing else for him to do but fight the top guys. He's going to make millions.

    Fishy if he doesn't fight. Could be hiding PEDs.

    Makes no sense at all. Time is quickly running out for him if its not already... hes not getting any better, this is most likely the best payday he can get from here on out too.

    Not sure what his 'plan' is at his age that is strategically better than just taking this fight.

    Mind boggling.

    I believe hes being offered millions for the opportunity to fight AJ. Which would be magnitudes more than even his biggest purse to date (500k) and is genuinely likely to be more than what he makes for the next two years combined at his current pace.

    I concur. So, why did he decline? Maybe he wants more than 6 weeks for a Joshua fight and he beleives he can beat AJ.

    He's good enough to believe it. He fought last month though... Shouldn't he be sharp?

That may be... but for someone who believes theyve been as avoided as he does, I just dont see why he thinks hes going to get a fight with AJ in a reasonable timeframe if he turns this down. It could be another year, easy, before he gets another call of this magnitude. And for someone his age and showing signs of decline already... I would think waiting another year or more doesnt compensate for having a couple extra weeks to train.

    Anyways... I definitely think its weird.

    Guess we will see...

    Couple of reasons spring to mind.

    a) He's on PEDs at the moment and knows he wouldn't pass the drug tests
    b) He's been advised of a bigger payday with Wilder (lol) down the line if he declines now
    c) He's been ordered somehow not to take the fight

    There's no other logical explanation I can think of.

    He should be ready to go by then, and even if he wasn't, when is he ever going to get an opportunity like this again?

    True, you can't be 40+ years old and not be in heavy decline. Maybe he has an injury or something like that because ^ Million is a lot of mullah.

    Has he actually officially declined it now?

    If so, it’s a strange one, kinda see it as a last roll of the dice for him, that’s just landed on his lap out of knowhere.

    Real question is if he declined then where does he go from here? Where will he end up?
