Could potentially burn bridges and scupper opportunities in the future though for the sake of pettiness.
I don’t really get why people that don’t like Whyte and consider him pretty worthless are now getting upset because he’s not doing interviews.
I don't think anyone's upset, it's just a bit puzzling. Generating buzz for this fight is in everyone's interest. Whyte is pretty good at doing that and so is Fury. It's a big British fight and people are excited to see it - if only one side is hyping it up it's not nearly as interesting as it could be.
I dont care if he doesn't show his face once until fight night, or if he spends the next 2 months riding a unicycle and spinning one of those advertising boards on a street corner to sell the fight. I just want him to sign.
Im sorry but getting paid $8,000,000 with potentially another $3,000,000 in winners bonus is not getting screwed over in any way shape or form. He's earning more in a single night than I will in my entire life.
Why is this so difficult for people to grasp? It is getting screwed over if you were entitled to more than that amount and Whyte was. He repeatedly paid the WBC a share of his purse fight after fight in the belief that they would do as they promised and give the holder of the WBC silver a 45% share of the purse. I take it the WBC aren't returning the sanctioning fees that they took under false pretences? Maybe if they did that Whyte would help promote the fight that will be further lining their pockets?
But Whyte wasn't entitled to 45%. He was entitled to whatever % split the WBC decided on and if his lawyers didn't read the rules properly then that's on them. Maybe he has a contract somewhere which says otherwise, but I very much doubt it. Whyte is earning 20% of the purse bid (with another 10% on the table for the winner) but let's be realistic, his % split of whats being paid to the fighters is in all liklihood much closer to 30%. Wirh the amount of money on the table for him right now, there is no excuse for not taking the fight.
He got dicked and we all know it. All the boxers get dicked by the alphabet bodies and the promoters all the bloody time. WBC may as well do away with a rulebook entirely. If you all want to get behind them on this occasion because you don't like the fighter whose getting shafted that's fine, but don't complain when it happens to a fighter you do respect, because it certainly will.
This is shortsighted, naïve and petty from Dillian. I am no fan of his quite the opposite, but even so it just goes to show how few boxers have good people around them giving them solid common sense advice. Why should he promote the fight? Well, because he is taking part in it!! This to me is so revealing. If you are confident in winning, if you back yourself, especially after waiting years for a title shot you would not be hiding away from the world, and letting Eddie Hearn dance around the subject and make statements on your behalf. It shows Dillian wanted the money the fight brings, but not the fight itself. Now that the money is not what he thought it would and he has no faith in beating Fury he's throwing a tantrum and it reflects very badly on him. He should promote the fight because this is supposed to be his big moment. The biggest fight of his career, and the most exposure he will ever get. It's an opportunity to gain thousands of new fans, gain new commercial opportunities and put himself in a better position to make money after boxing. Not seeing that is backwards short term thinking. Anyone saying he has nothing to gain is using a very flawed logic. Most fights are not PPV's, infact the fights which are are a tiny minority. Using the 'he doesn't get paid to promote the fight' logic then any and all fighters not on a PPV would stay silent for weeks and not do a thing. After all- they have a fixed, purse, why would they lift a finger? Of course, they do it to promote themselves and the event they are a part of, which ultimately benefits them.
When Whyte was looking up into the Brentwood sky dribbling over himself just 2 fights ago he’d probably have paid out of his own pocket to have ever fought for the lineal heavyweight championship, yet here we are just one fight later with some people thinking he is being screwed over deserves more. He’s probably best staying quiet in my book and avoiding promotion though as Fury is going to give him a mini breakdown during the build up.
Whyts has shafted himself in this instance. He was apparently saying he is worth more and took legal action, so they WBC said ok lets base it on your purses.....
Is Whyte the most unlikeable British fighter ever? Certainly up there. In my top 3 with Benn and Bellew.
I don't have the same hate for Whyte that some do, but he's 34 now and has only just come back from getting banjoed by a past it Povetkin. So how can he be complaining about a £6 million pay day with the chance to earn more if he wins? All this carry on doesn't sound like someone who is either confident or bothered about winning and instead just wants to cash out for as much ass possible.
And he's asking for some of the upside on "more buys". Maybe he doesn't realise this will need sold like London Bridge just to break even, so upside is unlikely to be happening...
