Does he need to be? Sasha is no Tyson Fury, and an old, faded version still found a way to beat Whyte. This idea that the world's heavyweight champeen isn't capable in exchanges, that he lacks nous, timing and technique enough to get in the danger zone and set up telling punches while evading fire, is just another episode in the wildly popular and never-ending internet serial, Sleeping on Fury.
You have to favor Fury by a decent margin, but by no means is Whyte some journeyman, he's a legit top ten contender. Maybe Fury does play around and stop Whyte and make it look easy, but the opportunity and chance is there for Whyte to make it a rough night, he's not Tom Schwarz.
- Povetkin 2: Povetkin spent weeks in hospital with Covid and looked absolutely shot and out of shape, he retired afterwards - all you need to know - Povetkin 1: Wasn't really able to put him away despite KDs early on and then got uppercut'd into oblivion - Wach: Uninspiring UD which could have been a draw with fair judges, very close fight - Rivas: was hurt and dropped, only won because Rivas fought with one eye in the second half - Chisora 2: was losing to Delboy before he landed that KO shot - Parker: headbutted his way to a Win, should have lost the fight big time and was nearly ko'd in the last round More? Wilder > Whyte. Fury will win. He's just too good and too skilled. Whyte has a punchers chance like everyone has - especially at HW....but that's it.
If only Whyte used 100% of his brain during the fight he could beat Fury very easily for KO in the prime 5 rounds imo. Hope he does It. Fury has become a boring champion.
Whyte if any contender deserves a title shot and its nice he is getting it. Dont think he is going to win but there is a change and if odds are good enough might put little money on it
Whyte outboxing Fury would be the real shock. But him knocking Fury out or stopping him on cutd isnt out of the realm of possibilities. Still expect Fury to dominate him with his boxing to a clear 9-3 type ud or possible late tko. Will be interesting to see.
He has far more than 0% chance, I'd put it around 25-30% to pull the upset. Which wouldn't shock me in the least. If Fury comes into this match unfocused and being ultra aggressive and sloppy like he's been in his last three outings. He could very well end up playing right into Whyte's hands. I fully believe Wilder hits far harder than Whyte and that he would KO Whyte, but Wilder's money punch, Fury was able to dodge and weave his way past it and smother it repeatedly, but still ended up getting clipped with it a few times. But Whyte is a better boxer, with a better jab and a better counter puncher than Wilder. Well if Fury takes that new aggressive Kronk style to Whyte and tries to lay on him and wear him down, it's going to give Whyte ample opportunities to land his left hook both coming in and going out. Now keep in mind, Whyte can do maximum damage with it, with very little torque behind it. He can throw and land even a short hook, and wreak havoc with it. So if Fury knows what's good for him, he'll keep his distance and jab the hell out of him, force him to lunge in, make mistakes and pay for them. A word of warning, yes... Whyte doesn't have the best chin. But let's be honest, had Fury or Wilder got clipped by the uppercut Povetkin landed on Whyte, I highly doubt either of them would've made the 10 count either. I hate to sound clichéd, but that shot would've KO'd anyone.
A lot of the posts suggesting Whyte can win appear to be relying on Fury making mistakes rather than Whyte taking control of the fight. I don't believe Whyte is skilled enough to set the pace, so if Fury gets into his rhythm early it'll be a long night for Whyte. Fury also looks pretty focused to me. Personally think it's Whyte who is the one coming into the fight unfocused. He keeps moaning about how Fury isn't that much of a bigger draw than him, which he really needs to forget about. He is the B side, but he still seems to be assy about it.
Fury will make the odd mistake, always does - question is how well can Whyte punish him for it. It'll be an interesting one - Whyte's chin is nothing special (even if that Pov punch would've knocked out near enough anyone) but then Fury's not exactly a percussive puncher, so Whyte probably wouldn't mind a bit of trading... Will Fury? And will Fury be fit enough to avoid it? I still think Whyte's got a better chance than Wilder, significantly better boxer, much more proven too... I still think it's Fury's to lose, but that's every bit as much a question of his conditioning and mentality as it is the chance of a lucky KO.
Wilder landed 2 perfect monster KO punches in round 12 in the first fight with Fury,Fury beat the count and then dominated the round. Does Fury have enough left to recover from those type of shots again ? Can Whyte even land any telling shots as he struggled with the taller, past it Wach ? I guess we will see fight night.
