Whyte v Rivas PPV

Parker v Chisora would be dreadful, no doubt about it. Parker has never been exciting to watch, he was overhyped and got found out, fictional KO power that he has since proven he hasn't got.

 

Parker vs Whyte was of one most entertaining HW fights in recent years. Parker's fights against Ruiz and Takam weren't bad either.

 

I stick up for Whyte on here but he was very very lucky to sneak past Parker and Chisora (first fight). I believe he carried Chisora in that second fight though & just waited to bingo him which demonstrated just how much he’s improved, particularly his patience & timing. I don’t believe you can write Whyte off against anyone, he has the equaliser in that left hand if an opponent is wreckless enough to get into a shoot out with him. I believe he’s a top 10 heavyweight without a doubt but he’s not head and shoulders top 4. In fact, in 12-18 months time you’re gonna have Dubois, H Fury, Gorman, Joyce and Bakole all pushing him for being the 3rd best heavyweight on the U.K scene, never mind the world.

 

That's all fair and I also think Chisora won, I think Parker clearly lost however.
but no other contender for the 4th spot has as good as résumé as Whyte (accept maybe Povetkin) and also isn't as high ranked/for as long. That's my basis for Whyte being the 4th best HW

 

That is a very fair assessment, although I do still contend that Parker got systematically broken down in that fight with Whyte, and that Whyte demonstrated that he wanted that win more... and fought through to that finish line. But regardless, on your point about the Chisora rematch:

I wish more people would understand this! Because that is how it went down... truth be told none of them even cared who was up on the cards, they went in with one mentality which was to put the other guy down... they did not want to go to points at all. And Whyte hurt him several times, but his patience in biding his time was a display of world class maturity that can take any athlete far... because that is the mentality you need when you have KO power like Whyte, and natural insticts to just go crazy all the time.

I agree he is not head and shoulders at 4th, but he is well deserving of that spot, and can give plenty of trouble to the top three guys.

 

One of the best attributes of Whyte is that he doesn't overlook opponents... he always shows up prepared... and this will be the case with Rivas. Whyte unlike many others is consistent in his performance, he doesn't take time off from the office, or rounds with a defeatist mentality.

And this is what every fighter needs or you end up with silly upsets. And Rivas already knows, he expect to be met with a Dillian Whyte that is going to be very game, prepped and cautious.

Wouldn’t pay for this in a million years. Shame Warren couldn’t schedule ‘free(ish) to air’Joyce vs Dubois for the same night.

 

He doesn’t need to. He’s pulled a stroke putting it on the week before (if it actually happens as now looks doubtful). People will watch a good fight the week before and start questioning if paying for Whyte Rivas is then worth it.

He gave Joshua a decent fight actually and proved his heart against Whyte (in a fight he was unlucky to lose).

His fights with Whyte and Takam were good.

 

Punch wise he doesn't seem like much of a threat though, I think you need some kind of stopping power to mix it with the top guys, whether it's Wilderesque one shot KO or Joyce Juggernaught wearing down.

I'm suprised Parker doesn't KO more often given his speed as a 240LB'er ,plus he launches all his whole body with each attack.

 

The Joshua fight wasn't particularly great to watch, mainly down to the refereeing. The Whyte fight was alright but Parker left it too late. I didn't really think much of the Cojanu, Ruiz and Takam fights and the Hughie one was pretty dull too. He's a half decent boxer but not as good as he was being hyped. There was a time when people were saying Parker, Ortiz and Charles Martin were the most dangerous men in the division, the hype was ridiculous.

 

To be fair, Parker's still got a decent chance of being a major player in the division over the next 5 years or so.

Yeah the hype was ridiculous, let's see who is being hype right now??? Oh it's Nathan Gorman... same **** different day.

As for Parker v Whyte, Parker didn't leave it late... he went for the kill from round 1, he threw the kitchen sink at Whyte... by mid rounds he was mentally defeated, by the later rounds he was gassing and so was Whyte, and that's what allowed Parker to catch Whyte off-guard.

Make no mistake, Parker threw everything he had at Whyte with venom, he just got outgunned... despite being significantly faster.
