Agreed. Was nice when he was banned. Gets off on arguing repitively with anonymous strangers on the internet. I have a strong suspicion that he operates on a few different accounts with slightly different typing styles and 'opinions' - all essentially pro-Matchroom though. Can't be proven, but there's a few on here who think this. Very tiresome.

 

Almost certainly one of the MR PR dept nestled in deepest Brentwood, sweatily typing away in the basement of MR HQ fuelled by industrial quantities of Monster and Haribos. I'm envisaging a bank of monitors with the top boxing social media sites on 24/7 refresh, hunting and crushing "dissenting" opinions.

Have you ever met anyone in real life ever who argues and justifies FOR more PPV's. Yet on here there appear to be more than a few. And they just so happen to parrot basically the same line Barry comes out with. Hmm, really makes you think.

It wasn't a PPV.

It was on the Khan v Fa----gan undercard. Which was a terrible PPV in itself but it also included Oscar De La Hoya v Pacman shortly after it finished.

It's not good because boxing is slowly but surely being pushed off even the sports subscription channels, and when the whole industry relies on increasingly unconvincing PPVs and every decent fighter expects to be on PPV, that's very shaky ground.
A couple of bad PPVs or unexpected defeats/retirements of 'house fighters' and the interest evaporates and the whole thing comes crashing down.

What Frank was doing on SKY 10 years ago with crappy Amir Khan PPVs while SETANTA was partly taking over (temporarily) shouldn't be an excuse or a model for anything.

 

You asked what had changed to make everyone moan. It doesn’t matter who what PPV fight took place ten years ago, it’s the accumulative effect of PPVs which makes fans moan & why shouldn’t they? Chisora & Whyte PPV? Years ago, Chisora would merely have been considered a journey man. Fans are being exploited, because as fans, they don’t want to miss a fight ... but there is a tipping point, & I hope this event is it.

 

I don't think Audley Harrison v Martin Rogan was a PPV.
The fight occurred on the Amir Khan v Oisin ***an show, which was the main event.
And it appears that it was a PPV with the Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight included.

Sky Box Office will bring you the fight of the year AND Amir Khan's return to the ring as part of a sensational triple bill, 'Judgement Night'.

Oscar de la Hoya against Manny Pacquaio pits the biggest name in boxing against many people's pound-for-pound king and will round off a wonderful night on Saturday, December 6, live on Sky Box Office and Sky Box Office HD.


But before all that all eyes will be on London where Amir Khan makes his eagerly-anticipated return to the ring following his stunning 54-second KO at the hands of Breidis Prescott.

The 21-year-old is preparing to make his return to the ring against Irishman Oisin ***an, a former opponent of Paul Spadafora who has won 22 of his 27 fights.


Khan is suddenly big news following his last Sky Box Office appearance in September.

Khan lasted less than a minute in being blasted to his first professional defeat by hard-hitting Prescott, leaving British boxing's brightest reputation in tatters. He has since parted company with trainer Jorge Rubio and sought the expert of advice of Freddie Roach in Hollywood.

The boxing world will be watching to see how he reacts to that first defeat, making the December 6 bill, Judgement Night in every sense of the word.

Sky Box Office will be the place to see if Khan can re-establish his reputation among the world's best.

Last but by no means least, a real treat from Las Vegas as de la Hoya and Pacquiao go toe-to-toe. The pair will meet at welterweight, which means the Filipino phenomenon moving up two divisions after destroying David Diaz in June.

There's a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE between "Audley v Rogan" being pay per view, and Pacquiao-De La Hoya being PPV with Audley-Rogan being on the undercard of the UK lead-up show.

Actually, fair play to Frank Warren there.

So, forgetting that Frank was putting on shocking PPV's back in the day and that this most certainly isn't a new thing, you miss a straightforward point.

Boxing will have more PPV's when it's more popular. PPV's only work if you have the market to sell them to, and at the moment that market clearly exists. People may very well drift away from the sport, but it's all a bit like the suggestions that high price season tickets would stop people going to football. Not far off three decades since the Premier League began and attendances are massive.

 

Plenty on here moan about them. But let's face it, a dozen or so people repeating the same points about PPV mugs ad nauseum are a drop in the ocean when pudding Bellew v pudding Haye do 700k+ buys.

Can’t help but feel that you’re trolling here, Tony. You’re on a boxing forum with a group of fans from various backgrounds who mostly understand the value of £20...especially when it’s on top of a monthly subscription charge, so PPV’s are a highly emotive subject. You fully get this, and come at this subject as if you’re one of the suits affiliated with Sky/matchroom rather than a ripped off fan like the rest of us. We’re not thick...we understand why they’re rinsing us with the PPV model, we grasp the concept and its ‘current’ success. They can sell PPV’s for this fight despite its mediocrity (overall card), we get it.

If you’re happy with PPV’s for average cards because the business side of it (in which you don’t personally profit?) works then fine but stop rubbing our noses in it for a reaction.

 

Well, I suspect I'm somewhat older than you, because 10 years ago isn't "back in the day" for me, and actally comes pretty close to "recent years".

The way I see it, PPV was pretty bad then (shocking even) and got so bad that it almost died out (after Haye's bad PPVs and pull-outs), and Matchroom revived it and are carrying on the same road .....

I'm not "ignoring 10 years ago", I'm simply living in the present.

Everyone on this forum 10 years and more ago, knows that Frank was getting the same stick back then that Matchroom get now ... and Frank STILL gets stick now when he puts on a bad show !

I don't know how you can talk about Frank and "shocking PPVs" since according to you all PPVs are justified by the market. They either sell or they don't. That's your outlook so you can't call any of them shocking.
