I love Hagler, but did he ever do something above 160 ? He never dared to be a top 10 pound for pounder ever. And he lost to a 147 pounder coming from 3 years off, an all time great sure, but There is no way an old Ray Leonard coming from 3 years off comes close to beating Bernard Hopkins at 160, even a 40 years old B-Hop.
I know where you are coming from man, but be smart and don't bet. Bernard will need to win at least 8 rounds clearly in order to get the decision. It's too risky betting against HBO guys.
Bernard just missed getting the decision over Calzaghe. So why would it surprise anyone that he would have a chance against Pavlik?
Of course Leonard could ! As smart as Hopkins is, Leonard was just as smart, quicker, more mobile, and busier. Leonard had a brilliant fight plan against Hagler, and he followed it to the letter. He'd do the same against Hopkins, he'd outwork Bernard just like Taylor and Calzaghe did, doing everything to impress the judges.
You see, even you can argue about his chances only when Bernard is on his 40+ version. But I disagree. Hagler was stupid and arrogant in that fight. He tried to outbox the boxer. Even an old Bernard would do anything to win, and won't play around : he'd bully the small man and make it a dirty and ugly fight, the kind of fight showboaters like Ray don't like. Hopkins is a smarter fighter than Hagler, always been.
Everybody thought Miranda was going to K.O. Pavlik because of his punching power. Look what happened. Everybody thinks Pavlik is going to K.O. Hopkins because of his punching power, not going to happen. Look at the strategy Pavlik used against Miranda. It was simple but effective, to make Miranda fight backing up. Hopkins will be able to utilize a variety of strategies to take away Pavlik's power. People are stupid to think Pavlik is going to K.O. Bernard Hopkins.
He didn't. He is fighting Kelly Pavlik, THE Middleweight champion of the World, Saturday night. You'd think a boxing fan loike you would know this. Sheeeeeez!
No need for Abraham. Pavlik is the recognized middleweight champion. Plus, I would rather see Pavlik/Abraham than Hopkins/Abraham. Now that's a fight that should be made.
I cannot watch Bernard Hopkins fight, I saw his last two fights, and I cannot sit through his fights anymore
hopkins still has what it takes to trouble kelly as he's the craftiest boxer out there. i predict a hopkins corner retirement in about 10 rounds
