    U can get stronger without getting bigger mate. Forget about getting bigger. Stick to the big 5 ( deadlifts , squats, weighted chins, bench and shoulder press) only do 1 rep max's. u will get stronger , improve nervous system response and stay lean. Only do this one day a week and be carefull with technique and form.

  4. I'd suggest two days for progress, eat healthy as you would normally, plenty of protein, nuts,beans,fish for fats, wholefoods, fruit and veg, water and milk etc... If you want to get bigger then you need a calories surplus.

    Yeah no harm in two days i suppose. Im using the paleo way of dieting at the moment. Excellent for energy levels while staying lean.

    So you're suggesting doing 1RM for deadlift, squats, weighted chins, bench and overhead press all in a single day? Awful idea. It's a particularly awful idea for an athlete that needs to train for their sport the next day. This training would demolish the guys CNS not improve response. You don't even need to go down to your 1RM to get stronger so I don't know why you're suggesting this.

    Also, stay lean from doing 1RM in 5 lifts once a week? Seriously? Where did you get this crap from?

    ehhhh i dont know about 1 rep maxes..much higher chance of injury and the strength gains really arent there 3 reps to failure should be as low as you go..and make sure you do some warm up sets before that. I like the 5x5 workout myself.

    Only 100% incorrect.

    If you're using a weight you can only do 3 reps with, it's going to be a fairly heavy weight. Going to failure with heavy weight is just dumb. Also, going to failure is the worst thing you could possibly do when it comes to increasing strength. There's no good reason to ever train to failure.

    I'd suggest the Schwarzenegger/Tyson routine

    It activates your amino acid absorption receptors increasing l-agrinine protein synthesis in your knees. If you consume 40g of Vitamin C per lb of bone in your body, you will see incredible muscle/strength gains.

    This is the routine;

    Go to the squat rack in a gym, and do bicep curls with a 10lb dumbell. Do 16.7 reps, rest for a month, and do the same.

    then do squats on the treadmill

    You're welcome

    who else in the world suggests doing one rep max as a regular workout?

    and yes 3 red to failure does risk injury..i said that is the lowest one wants to go..in general 5 reps is about right.

    a 1 rep max is by definition to failure.
