Wiil Cotto rebound from the Margo loss?

can't really tell until he fights that jennings guy. if cotto runs over the guy, most likely the old cotto is back. if this jennings guy gives him a great fight, cotto's in big trouble. his drinking and partying worries me, but i'm thinking he's just doing it with moderation and not abusing his body. hoping he's taking care of himself and focusing on the job at hand, i think he'll be a more careful fighter coming in and should ko jennings

 

In their next fight, Cotto has to simply face Margarito head up and go for a lethal body attack. The perfect guy that could beat Margarito (If he was big enough) would be Juan Diaz. He's not big enough, but his fighting style is the type of style that would beat Margarito. He's an inside fighter, and Margarito would have trouble getting his punches off against someone like him that doesn't back up and has relatively infinite stamina. I firmly believe that the reason that Margarito imposes his will in his fights is because most people simply haven't attacked his body enough because they are usually always backing off. Fighting him headsup would negate his armlength advantage and his punches would become awkward because of how lengthy his arms are.

Ultimately though, I suspect that the reason people back off from him is that he probably punches much harder than people think. Those Cintron knockouts weren't exactly because he had worn him down. He's quite heavy handed.

Good point, but Cotto would need great stamina to be able to keep turning Margarito just like you describe. Additionally, Floyd's reflexes are impeccable and had to be tiptop that night against Coralles to be able to fight him like he did. This would have to be the same with Cotto if he were to attempt a similar strategy against Margarito, except he'd have to be even more impeccable because Margarito is even more unrelenting than Coralles was.

 

Yes, he will rebound from this (And win a championship again)
But I advise him to wait until someone else knock's off Margarito...

cotto seems very disciplined,i think he will rebound from this,but i dont see him ever beating margarito but i hope he tries,cant wait for the rematch!

 

What I meant was I always felt Cotto believed of himself that he's unbeatable, especially after going through all the shaky moments to prevail in the end, especially vs. name guys like Judah or Mosley. That seemingly gave him all the confidence, acknowledged that he is one of the best P4P-er in some of the interviews and this 'I can always come back to win' image was supported by the public as well. This very image was eliminated by brutal fashion in a fight where Cotto did everything he could (and worked for a while), but in the end, wasn't enough. From the untouchable mindset to the fear in the bloody eye on the canvas, that's a HUGE mental shock.

 

I can only hope so.

 

Hard to say, if he can it would show how mentally tough he is.

 

I dont think he will have any problems winning WBO title against Jennings but I think he should have a few more fights before rematching Margarito. When you hit someone with every shot you've got and he keeps walking forward like frankenstein there really is nothing more soul destroying as a fighter. If he loses again where does he go from there. I would like to see him fight someone like Andre Berto first.

 

I don't think so. It's very difficult to come back from a beating like that. Margo systematically broke him down and stopped him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be another Jeff Lacy.

I like Cotto though. He doesn't talk shite and he seems like a real professional.

He is a good boxer, but that was a rough loss.

We actually have a fighter in this era that fights for pride and you want to keep him from it? The man wants the chance to prove to himself that he can defeat Margarito. I respect the hell out of that even if his chances are small to avenge his loss.

I give Cotto more of a chance in a rematch then most people do. He proved that he can outbox Margarito and I guess I can't see Margarito being that determined again. However, if Tony is still hungry and shows it in the rematch then I guess I have yet another fighter to cheer for in the future.
