Both of these guys were basically journeyman and I think Johnson might have been a tad better. Both in my opinion were in some decent s****s and played an important role in building up good fighters.. Sanderline was probably more durable as he was stopped only once in 40 fights and took a lot of decent hitters the distance.. He even got a draw with young James Toney and beat a respectable fighter in Dwight Davison. Vampire could punch though and was a nasty fighter to tango with..

I have absolutely no idea who would win. I think Sanderline fought for the NABF title when it still counted for something. I was never able to view the regional fighters from the US, which I wished I could.
But kudos on a different thread from the usual, Magoo. I hope you get lotsa replies.

Vampire Johnson was a cool fighter, Fist. He was missing his two front teeth giving the appearance of him having fangs. He would wear a cape and sometimes was even carried into the ring in a coffin!!! .. he wasn't a great fighter by any means but the man definitely had character and was original. He retired in 1989 and from what I've read became a bus driver in his home town.

Thanks my friend. Vampire looks pretty damn decent in that footage, I must say. Are there any full fights on youtube or another site? (Being lazy I know)
But in all honesty, these are the guys that make up the majority of our sport, not the legends.
    Respect to them.

I've just been casually hunting around on youtube, but I'll post more if I can find some stuff. Yeah his image was more like that of a professional "wrestler" than boxer, but I loved his style. And yes he wasn't bad skill-wise as journeyman go.

Yeah, his skill wasn't half bad. He looks more than respectable. Awesome nickname and gimick as well.

I wish someone would write a book on these B and C list fighters. This is real boxing; not everyone can be a champion or a legend, but that does not mean that those who never fought for a title lacked skill or heart.
The path towards a championship is fraught with dangers and even today, only a select few really make it to the top.

That doesn't mean that these guys (who are still solid pro fighters) should get any less respect.

I agree. The big fights with the super stars only happen a few times a year.. But the mainstream of boxing took place every single day on the lower profile networks, radio stations, and local clubs and auditoriums. This was always REAL boxing to me. As for writing a book about such fighters..... Well I think you've given yourself an idea for a pastime ;)

Never even heard of Landini until now, and thanks for the link Magoo. It was a pretty good fight. I had Landini the winner by a couple of rounds. The knockdown made things interesting though.

    Williams by decision

Johnson was a 154 pounder and Williams was the better fighter anyway. Pretty good boxer. Johnson was never above club fighter. Williams was a good journeyman/fringe contender.

They forgot to include his one punch ko loss to Mugabi where his eyes were wider than saucers as he stated blankly into space

Those highlights were all against stumblebum ESPN clubfighters

I only saw him a couple times on ESPN. But he might have appeared on other networks. I also suspect that he fought in some club fights that probably weren't televised
