This battle of the men in suits is a ****ing joke and we should all just boycott the fights. It's a shambles but what do we expect from this corrupt sport?
The money that can be made for heavyweight fights outside Wilder, AJ, Fury & Whyte just doesn’t seem to be there. They’re fighting for a few hundred thousand outside that top 4. The drop off in fight purses is absolutely huge and the sad fact is, the people in suits are just not willing to risk their assets or sell them short. For example, if Whyte, Wilder or Fury lose their next fight, their ability to pull in a big purse gets hit hugely. I’m not justifying this by the way, I’m absolutely sick of it.
The question this asks is really something of a gambling one. Take Wilder. He doesn't make that much money all things considered, given he's an unbeaten, American, heavyweight world champion. The fact that he earns significantly less than an admittedly excellent but nonetheless Kazakh middleweight, or for that matter enormously less than a Mexican middleweight who can barely speak English, speaks volumes. I think losing value if they lose depends on how they lose. If Wilder loses an absolute zero action stinker against Joshua then you're absolutely right. If he has Joshua down in the second, only to go down in the fourth himself before both rally and he loses in the tenth with back and forth action throughout? Then everyone wants a rematch and it's likely to happen as the money will be there. My view is that Wilder and Fury know the biggest payday by miles for both is Joshua, and both are looking at it now as a cash in. It plainly defies common sense that Wilder would be keener to fight Ortiz again when you have a chance to be undisputed.
Just to add, as I never really made the gambling point, it's a bit of a risk because all too often Wilder looks like he could come unstuck against one of these supposed also-rans. Many think he clearly lost to Fury and he nearly lost to Ortiz. Lose to Breazeale and who needs Joshua v Wilder? Everyone will be talking about Joshua v Fury or Usyk anyway.
Yep. Wilder is far from a cert against many in the top 15. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes unstuck before the Joshua fight and there will come an occasion where his power doesn't bail him out. Whereas, you would expect Fury to keep winning if he maintains his motivation.
Finkel meeting with DAZN this week. Also meeting with Top Rank. Oh and Ortiz rematch remains on the table. No prizes for guessing which one they take...
This is all for show, there's a reason why Ortiz turned down AJ fight. Wilder is just gonna re-cycle Haymon in-house fighters. He will NEVER fight on another network where Haymon cannot maximize his earnings and control, so Fury and AJ fights are out the window.
Wilder refused a 3 fight $100mil deal that included the AJ fight. Last night he got $10mil for Breazeale. Say the second fight was $20mil vs Whyte or someone, or Ortiz as its likely to be. He would be getting massively overpaid! And it still leaves $70 mil in the kitty for the AJ fight. What’s he holding out for?
The Ortiz rematch has no appeal or justification. Ortiz done very well but he got iced cold. If he was a young improving fighter I could understand it but that was his last chance saloon. Wilder is getting better and would end this fight early.
Completely agreed. I reckon the second Ortiz fight could go the way of the second Stiverne fight. Embarrassing.
Yep I agree. Eddie mentioned this a few weeks back. He said Al Haymon made a mistake in giving Eddie and AJ the keys to "The Kingdom" by letting Charles Martin go over to the UK. Haymon won't make that mistake again anytime soon.
He probably doesn’t want to be stuck on an app which probably 90% of US sports fans have no idea exists, let alone the general public. Haymon and Finkel will have just pointed Wilder in the direction of Mayweather and told them to trust them to make him a major star and not to come off TV/PPV. Its also a bit strange asking for Wilder to commit to an AJ fight on DAZN, when AJ himself hasn’t signed a long term with them yet IMO.
