Wilder "a big name" ????!

How is Wardley not bigger?? He’s such a great story, and on top of it, he’s a likeable dude in interviews.

 

He’s no where near Wilder.

Deontay has a better story, 5yrs wbc champ, Olympics, 10 defences, many many highlight reel ko’s, an exhilarating trilogy in one of best heavyweight rivalries in recent history with a guy who can sell sand to the Arabs and was A star and great fighter in his own right.

Wardley is nowhere near any half of that lol. He looked lost against Parker after the first few rounds and got lucky with the ref as that last burst was all he had left.

Don't get me wrong, Wardley hasn't accomplished anything near what Wilder has. I'm just wondering why he doesn't have a bigger following.
He's such an interesting story and a freak. How does a guy with basically zero experience end up where he has? What kind of man responds to being hurt and frustrated by going balls out aggressive, somehow getting stronger and harder hitting? He's like some weird boxing RPG character with every stat maxed out, but who is like level 2, trying to hang with the big dogs. How can anyone, as a fan, not be interested in a dude like that? What was he like growing up? How does a guy like that end up working some boring cubicle farm job, then kind of by whim fall into a pro boxing career?

Is he going to lose soon? Absolutely. Would Usyk maul him? Absolutely. But it doesn't matter, I want to see him do his thing. That should bring a fandom.

 

He’s looked good for the first 2, I was impressed but then he looked lost afterwards and I was fairly disappointed.

he doesn’t have a bigger following simply due to longevity and achievements. I think He has a large following considering what he has achieved so far. But he needs to continue and be fighting 3-4x a year till he gets a title shot.

he got where he has by hard work in a Lazy division when most current fighters are sat about he’s been in the gym, so credit to him. Some good management with a bit of luck his way too (like the Parker fight)

What kind of person responds to being hurt like that? A fighter!
When it comes to fight or flight choice, they fight. It should be the expectation from a fight fan. Are you fairly new to boxing?

Wilders a big name after his appearance on American traitors

 

Hatton was a superstar in England, right? When I asked English tourists and students about him then no one knew whom I was talking about, except maybe a couple of people.

 

It is a moot point really; I assume Usyk will not be self promoting the fight, so he is not on the hook if it is not as lucrative as he hopes. Ultimately if a promoter is willing to pony up a big purse to fight Wilder, then axiomatically Wilder is a big enough opponent to command such a purse.

 

How recently was that? Hatton's "moment" of being a crossover mainstream name recognizable to non-boxing fans was probably restricted to about 2004-2011ish.

Even for a Floyd Mayweather, now in 2025 if you ask some random Gen Z kid who doesn't remember his prime because they were in diapers, there's a good chance they won't know him (especially if they aren't into TMZ and hip-hop culture). For the first two decades of this century he and Pac were the biggest celebs the sport had, by far.

 

I mean... The Parker win is a better win than any Wilder managed in his whole career.

But Wardley hasn't had a long and highly protected belt run, if that's what you meant.

I don't know if Usyk has any interest fighting the next generation for less money, it seems like he wants names like Wilder, Ruiz or a 3rd fight with Fury.

Wilder, Ruiz and Fury are his targets.

 

Do people unsubscribe or are they just riding along for the last five years?
Are those followers actually going to watch that fight or do they just enjoy his content or whatever?
I would assume the percentage of actual interest in fights is way higher with the lower numbers of kavayel and wardley. Also I follow none of them and will not pay for wilder but would for wardley and kabayel.

Stupid social media followers Numbers determine way too much business decisions and probably lead to mistakes

 

Who’s the mandatory challenger?

In saying that, Wardley is the next correction.

 

Andy Ruiz would be a better choice than Wilder, despite his awful inactivity.
A much better choice.
