Of course boxing promotion is sold on shenanigans. The whole game is fake, I get that.
But maybe Simon Jordan really is a wind up merchant, and maybe Wilder really is a baby.

 

I don't think this was fake, Wilder is seriously traumatised from the Fury losses. His documentary will be interesting if it ever materialises, can't wait to see this "evidence" he keeps talking about (pretty sure it will be the old sparring glove accusation from Nicholas Asberry). Funniest part was Chisora passing over the box of tissues.

 

It doesn’t need to be staged or fake. Simon Jordan knew exactly how to get that reaction and he got exactly what he wanted.

Right. But Simon Jordan's motive isn't "to sell the fight" specifically. He's there to promote himself and boost his own resume. It's what he does.
I mean, if Wilder had been in his studio for an interview without a fight finalized, Simon Jordan would probably still say the same thing.
