That's the problem though isn't it. Once revered magazines like The Ring are doing the sport (and themselves) no favours by continuing to rank Ortiz so highly. Because it's certainly not for reasons of recent sporting achievements
Heh, to be honest, I can understand this. He's coming off a loss and wants a highlight reel KO to get his name back in the mix. Makes sense.
Not meaningful. Fighters got high rankings when it's useful for the sanctioning bodies to give them high rankings. The WBC has Ortiz THREE placings above Whyte in their rankings right now. That's ridiculous. Outside of the USA, interest in Ortiz has been declining since the fight with Malik Scott. And following his lackluster points win over Christian Hammer, there was basically none left at all.
Usyk turned 34 a couple months ago. I do not think he will boxing for more than another two years at the most. It is not reasonable to expect his body to do what it has been doing much beyond aged 35. He is not a featherfist, but he does not have enormous power as a HW. That is not what his game is based around. Things went very wrong for Usyk when Ruiz Jr stopped AJ and Wilder chose to fight Fury. He has been shuffled back in line. Even if Usyk beats Joe Joyce - and that fight is not imminent - a HW title fight will not be available for him right away. Fury and AJ will fight a minimum of two times and those will be huge fights for the sanctioning bodies and promoters and of course their rematch will be mandatory. Those two fights could very well take place 12 months apart. So if the fight with Joyce cannot be made soon (and it's currently held up in purse bid nonsense) and/or the first AJ/Fury fight does not take place by summer - I think Usyk might run out of patience and retire.
Yeah. Also there his age despite looks not too old, he is tired because he fought too much opponents in their real prime peak. Nerves too are used a bit too much: especially to fight with Glowacki in Poland, this then was undefeated and was 2-0-0 in World Title fights and ofc tickets seller in Poland. Huck with his fans in Germany to fight with too is not fun. A lot of ppl assumed that if he will not stop Huck, he will not get decision win. Briedis fight: while then Briedis didn't had so much backup to worry about unfair cards there and Usyk's fans assumed that Usyk might KO Briedis, also in reality some Briedis fans had predicted clear 120-108 win for Usyk. More knowledgeable ppl predicted that he will not be able to get Briedis down even for a count and Briedis does have chance to KO Usyk. Klit too mentioned this before fight. Some pundits predicted that if Usyk will win, this will be via decision. Fight was more close than ppl had predicted and even more close than judges cards settled this. Then Usyk had fought then injury free Murat who was undefeated with 2 belts. Murat was called as iron cos his durability, power and ability to take punch, good stamina and he was willing to fight. Usyk fought best Murat version than ever will be in the world after this. Also he had elbow problem after fight vs Briedis and Murat fight therefore happened later than had been predicted. Usyk's legacy is good, he also had title defense fight in U.S vs undefeated up coming cotender.
What Wilder really fears is fighting another man who can take his shot like Fury. Problem is he tried to convince himself Fury can't take a shot as he's been dropped by lesser men and now he's put himself in a mental hole.
Remember when everyone wrote Deontay Wilder off? I'm going to bump this thread for 10 years ... about the time Wilder will be entering The Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota. There are so many to stupid Wilder-bashing threads to choose from just this year alone ... I may bump one a week until Wilder wastes Fury in fight 3 and becomes Lineal champ.
I mean fair does - Deontay just had the biggest win of his career. Unusual for him to have to rely on the judges though...
Wilder-Fury 3 for the WORLD Heavyweight Championship. * Will Wilder become the fifth-oldest Lineal World Heavyweight Champion ... older than Ali when he beat Spinks? * Will Wilder become a two-time World Boxing Council Heavyweight Champion? * How many more defenses will he add to his already exemplary 10 successful title defenses? * Will Wilder knock out the World Champ Fury and have stoppage wins over EVERY MAN he's faced as a pro in his 12-year career? We will all find out this summer. #WilderFury3Next
Inactive, old, dealing with mental scars of being manhandled, trying to remember the order of punches for the 1-2 he's been working on ('right hand, jab Malik?' ... 'Almost Deontay, getting there'), the stress of finding a suit maker with weighing scales, sourcing a battery pack made in the 21st Century, yeah the odds are heavily in favour of 'no'....
