That's not hypocritical at all. All a trainer can do is teach. If Wilder refuses to learn then that isn't on the trainer. Breland expressed his frustration with Wilders inability to learn years ago. Breland should be commended for not giving up on teaching somebody obsessed with his own power.

Wilder sounds like a guy surrounded by yes men. Kind’ve like Fat Elvis late in his life when his yes men convinced him he knew karate. They gave him a black belt and karate uni (probably with a sweet belt buckle) and marveled when he broke balsa wood boards. Unfortunately, Wilder has to face the reality of a large opponent looking to put debts in his head. This isn’t going to end well.
