First of all what a fight it was, yes we all no Fury won, we all no Fury was robbed but lets forget that for a second. I expected Fury to win I expected Fury to give Wilder a boxing lesson but did anyone really expect Fury to be so impressive? I sort of expected a sloppy Fury but still good enough to win but the Fury that showed up, wow, he was better than I expected at this stage of his comeback and its a real shame he isn't WBC heavyweight champion. He outboxed Wilder and made him look silly, he completely nullified Wilders power until the 9th round. We all know how dangerous Wilder is but Fury was showboating infront of him with his hands behind his back. Furys confidence and self belief is like nothing ive seen in this generation. His movement his feints his timing, his punch accuracy, a few times it looked like wilder was a few shots from going down himself. As good as Fury was lets not discredit Wilder, it wasn't Wilders fault how the judges scored the fight, and despite getting schooled his stuck with it kept his head in the game and scored 2 late knockdowns which seemed to swing the fight to a draw. This should not of been a draw but admittedly without them 2 knockdowns Fury takes it on the cards so once again Wilders monstrous power dug him out a ditch again. Where do we go from here? Personally I think all this Joshua/Wilder April13th talk needs to stop immediately. Joshua is right up there in the top 3 heavyweights in the world but I believe Hearn is ruining his reputation making him look like he's avoiding the challenges, so hearn trying to make the Wilder fight despite Wilder losing in the eyes of the boxing world is once again a weak move and lets be honest Fury now deserves that fight. Wilder needs to admit he has to slightly rebuild after last night as Furys stock has went up and his has went down. Here is how I believe things should go which gives the top 3 the most credibility. Joshua - Chase the winner of last night not the loser. Joshua vs Fury april 13th is huge and the respect Joshua would earn for beating Fury would put him up there as number 1. What credit does Joshua get for beating a man that has (unnoficaially) lost to Fury. Joshua still doesn't get the credit he deservers for wlad win as he was furys leftovers. He needs to go straight at Fury to establish dominance. Fury - Take the moral high ground we all know he won last night forget the rematch for now and face Joshua. Yes fury has (unofficially) beaten Wilder the question remains in some minds who is still the UK number 1. Fury may still have the lineal heavyweight tag but having actually titles to go with it wont do him any harm. Fury vs Joshua to establish number 1 in the world. Wilder - Take a step back and get people talking about you again. Wilder should fight breazele next and get another highlight reel KO to raise his stock back up. A lot of people think Wilder ducked Whyte. Maybe fight Whyte. If Wilder steps out the limelight and gets a knockout win over Breazele or Whyte then late 2019 we can see the winner of Fury/Joshua vs a DeontayWilder in a massive unification with both fighters coming off big confedence boosting performances and this will no doubt determine the number one heavyweight in the world.
The chances of Joshua taking the Fury fight in April are about the same as an Asteroid hitting the earth and wiping out humanity in the next 5 minutes. In fact, I'd be surprised if an AJ/Fury showdown happens this side of about 3 years. Fury knows this which is why he's so vocal about it. Everyone knows it's already Whyte in April. My guess is Eddie wants Whyte/Miller vs Wilder after that to gauge how much of a threat he is still. It actually wouldn't surprise me however if Joshua takes the Wilder fight after that but Fury....no chance. This is why a rematch is probable as it will be huge payday for both, but particularly Fury as there is no one out there remotely skilled or high profile enough to present him with a chance of losing except for AJ and he won't be anywhere to be seen for years.
Agreed, the fight that really matters is Joshua/Fury, that's the fight between the 2 best in the division. Wilder's WBC belt is just a trinket and means less than knowing who really is number 1 between Joshua and Fury.
I saw a funny interaction between George Foreman and some guy on twitter last night. The guy told Foreman who was saying decisions are unpredicatable and Wilder brought the fight to Fury. The guy told Foreman. “Brought the fight”, you mean walking towards him and punching air?? Sorry but if you credit Wilder those first 4 rounds you need serious medical attention" and Foreman's reaction was Got a Doc appointment Tuesday I’ll ask him about this
don't get me wrong im all for a fury wilder rematch but I believe the idea in the first post is better as that it establishes who the real number one is
I don't think the answer for Wilder is to go into hiding and make fights with Brezeale or Whyte that nobody cares about. Joshua isn't fighting Fury next. He wants no part of that. Joshua and his team know they have to step up now and make a big fight. They see the vulnerability in Wilder after last night. Wilder has a better shot against Joshua than he did with Fury. Joshua doesn't have the skills, slickness , chin or conditioning of Fury. Wilder can shatter that big statue late (if he doesn't get himself clipped early). Fury needs to stay busy. Doubt that Whyte would risk his #1 contender status in a Fury fight. Ortiz or Brezeale may take the shot though.
This is my point exactly, Joshua needs to step up and make a big fight, his biggest fight to date is klitscko who was coming off a loss to fury, why fight a badly exposed Wilder coming off an unofficial loss to Fury, Does Joshua want a reputation of beating Furys leftovers. the biggest fight Joshua can make now for his credibility is Tyson Fury, beating Wilder now proves nothing and makes him look weak. Beating Fury will establish Joshua as number one. Joshua beating Wilder still doesn't put him above Fury.
Why? Because Fury is all wrong for him and he's likely going to lose that fight. Possibly by a wide margin. Fury still has weight to lose and was probably only 80% last night. He'll be even better next time out. Joshua don't want (or need) that work. The boxing public has been pining for the Wilder v. Joshua fight for much longer than Fury v. Joshua. Wilder also is the one with the title. The last remaining title to completely unify the division. Fury will always be there for AJ. Always. Let Fury get another win or two and it'll be the biggest fight England ever see's. That's why Wilder is up next.
its whyte vs Joshua in april everyone knows that.... hearrn just being a smartass about it.. I like hearn.. but if he dodges fury after this performance for all of 2019 I lost respect for him and aj.. fight the man everyone knows he's the legit wbc champ after last night. deontay needs to step back down fight breazeale or miller/whyte/parker/chisora
What makes you think Fury has a better chin then Joshua? Joshua hasn't been put flat on his back by a feather fisted over the hill CW half his size i.e. Cunningham.
I want the Fury-Wilder rematch. Yes Fury has the moral, unofficial victory, but it still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. I want Fury to beat Wilder and for Wilder to have to admit he lost fair and square. I don't want Wilder to have the comfort blanket of denial he has just now.
