Wilder was out of the ring for 14 months and at 38 it’s going to show, that’s why his timing was so off. That was Parker’s 4th fight of the year. He will shake it off now and improve for his next fight, AJ Wilder will still get made in the future both have 3 losses. This content is protected
boxing is 75 % mental. His whole demeanor is of a guy who maybe still has it physically but doesnt mentally. He seems like Mickey said to Rocky in Rocky 3 "civilized".In boxing once you dont have that animal in you your done.
Yeah he was ring rusty, but he's an experienced pro and even ring rusty fighters can shake that off once they've gotten some rounds under them and lets be honest he was never in the fight. Could he have performed better had he fought once or twice in the last 12 months, definitely, would it have been enough to win, no I don't think so. This fight wasn't even remotely close and when Wilder, in the 10th I think, finally decided to plant his feet and throw, Parker just rolled with the shots and fired back and that shut down Wilder from trying to amount any serious offence. Wilder has always been a one trick pony and when up against sitting ducks like Helenius, Breazeale and Stiverne that made him look like a monster but fact is whenever he's stepped up he's gotten badly outclassed and Parker was always probably too good for Wilder.
There can be no excuses - Wilder is past his best but Parker fought excellently. The biggest factor here is that Wilder is vastly overrated and simply just not the fighter who was built up to. Still a good slugger with a great heart, he always has my respect. Let me retire in peace he seems happy.
He did have ring rust, and his timing was off. That is true. But Wilders issues are much deeper than that and I think it's time to retire. He doesn't have the mentality anymore. He's happy, and seems to have healed the parts of him that fueled his in ring mentality. Good for him in life.... not good for him in boxing. Guy just lost in a passive performance and talked about how happy he is and about the drug he's doing in his postfight interview. Call it a day champ.
He seems happy in himself despite the loss which is the main thing, I’d like to see him retire and not take anymore punishment. He gave us an amazing Fury trilogy and I think he can be very proud of that.
He gave us HW battles, nothing but respect for Wilder. He made Heavyweight Boxing in the modern era great
And that's on wilder Hes got exposed for what he is Just like my boy big mak Couldn't handle the fire being lit in the basement
The guy has stolen a living he's laughing all the way to the bank. He managed to go his entire career fighting cans and even when he finally stepped up against ortiz and fury and got completely exposed he still managed to have the wool over lots of fans eyes and have people still calling him a top 3 hw. Now at the age of 38 when the facade is well and truly up he can slink away a very rich man. He's played the game perfectly to be fair well done.
I don't think this is a case of ring rust. Parker did what Fury did, took away Wilder's preferred range for his right hand and exploited his inability to fight inside, in a different way. Fury smothered him, Parker stood back out of his range and was smart about his offense. This was Wilder's second best opponent he's faced in 40+ fights.
