It's hard to say how good Wilder's chin is given the low level of opposition he has fought to date. He did better than expected to recover from being caught by Ortiz but let's get that in perspective - Ortiz is in his late forties at least and had no stamina to finish the job.

Right now I'd say his chin is just ok.

Wilder did far better than many expected in regards to taking a punch vs Ortiz and showed good instincts when hurt to tie Ortiz up.

The shots he took were solid shots but Ortiz allowed the moment to get away from him by rushing his work. He smothered his work to some degree which is why Wilder was so easily able to tie him up and had he taken a step back and been more methodical in his approach he might of finished Wilder in the 7th.

Ortiz didn't do enough in the 8th either, he he gassed a bit trying to finish Wilder in the 7th and Wilder was able to recover faster despite being the one being hurt. That's when good conditioning plays it's part in a tough fight, Wilder put the work in, in the gym and showed up lean and in good condition, Ortiz showed up looking like his usual soft self, so when both were pushed the fitter man came out on top.

I say his chin is below average. He got badly rocked by Ortiz, hurt by Molina, and dropped by Sconiers and Nichols.

Actually Ortiz punched himself out in the 7th round, that's the reason he couldn't do enough in the 8th round, he was throwing like 120 punches in both rounds together, most of them power punches and that's enormous for a heavyweight.

He threw everything but the kitchen sink at Wilder and couldn't drop him, his conditioning is certainly not to blame.

I agree that he punched himself out in the 7th, as I said he rushed his work in trying to finish Wilder and expended a lot of energy, hence why he was lack luster in the 8th.

Still think conditioning was partly to blame. Worse condition you are in the longer it takes for you to recover. After the 7th Wilder was hurt and Ortiz was exhausted and the fitter fighter recovered quicker and won the fight. Had Wilder still been tired in the 10th and Ortiz was feeling fresh again who do you think would of gotten the KO?

From what I have seen, his chin is average. It could also be argued that his chin is a little below average, which would be an easier argument to make than it would be to argue that his chin is above average.

I believe Wilder KO's Fury in the late rounds but loses to AJ via British stoppage.

I had the feeling they were both recovering in the 8th round and more or less recovered in the 9th round, Wilder
hit him with a hard right hand in the 10th round, that's when Ortiz really started to look confused and subsequently got knocked out without resistance.

I think it's unrealistically to assume any heavyweight would have recovered quick from the onslaught Ortiz delivered in the 7th round, even Wilder would have punched himself out with that amount of punches, the difference is Wilder would have knocked Ortiz out and he wouldn't have needed to recover.
