Deontay Wilder understands why Eddie Hearn keeps insisting that Wilder fight Dillian Whyte.

Wilder is convinced Hearn just wants to keep him away from fellow heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Hearn’s company promotes Joshua and Whyte, both of whom will fight Saturday night at Principality Stadium in Cardiff Wales.

Hearn has offered Wilder $3 million guaranteed, plus U.S. television revenue, to fight Whyte thus far. While Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) makes it clear he doesn’t need to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Whyte (21-1, 16 KOs), he’ll do it if Hearn pays him approximately double what has been discussed thus far.
can definitely see where that happens,” Wilder told BScene.com of facing Whyte. “It happens when Eddie raises that price. That’s when it can happen. If he can come up with $7 [million], whether it comes out of his pocket or not, we’ll listen. … The Dillian Whyte fight, it can happen. But it’s gonna take a little bit more than what they’re talking about. Let them raise it up to $7 to $10 [million] and let’s talk. For $4 million and then they’re talking about me coming over there and all that – the thing about it is I don’t need Dillian Whyte. I don’t need to fight him. And if Joshua don’t wanna fight, then that’s fine, too.”

If they raise the money and I’m happy with it, we can fight anywhere they want,” Wilder said. “I’d prefer to bring him to America and let him get a glimpse of this, but if we have to go over there, if the money’s right, then hey, let’s do it. That’s all I’m saying. If you’re gonna waste my time, you’re gonna pay for it. You’re gonna pay more than $4 million to waste my time. And I’m very strong on it. I don’t need Dillian Whyte. I don’t care about that money, what they’re talking about.

“People always worry about, ‘Oh, this is a big payday.’ My life’s straight. I’m good. The love of money is the root of all evil. My life don’t dwell just on money. It’s all about peace and happiness with me, and my life is at peace and I’m happy with my family. I’ve got a great family, I’ve got a great career and when you find peace in your life, man, there’s nothing that can interrupt that. Nothing can interrupt your peace. So if they come up on that price, like we want, they got them a fight. I promise you that.”

Wilder is becoming a joke. I know he’s the laughing stock of this forum, I’ve tried giving him benefit of the doubt. But he’s just ridiculous.

He would rather fight Stiverne for $1 million. At least he knows its an easy win, and he is prepared to have 3 fights a year for the next 2 years to make another $6 million.

Easy money for Deontay for zero risk

Wilder doesn't need Whyte, but if Whyte wants the fight bad enough he can become the WBC mandatory. $3 million to travel to the UK isn't worth it at all after taxes. Wilder still makes more in Alabama.

Hearn is making it very obvious that he doesn't want to risk Joshua, which is fine he's still really green, but pretending that Whyte is a threat is laughable. Whyte at best is on the same level as Wilder's voluntaries.

U.S. television revenue? Does that mean Hearn would put Wilder-Whyte on PPV in the U.S.?

Even Wilder knows nobody in the U.S. would buy that.

Wilder-Whyte isn't a PPV in the U.S. It may certainly be one in England, but it isn't here. I don't even know if all the U.S. boxing fans on this board have seen Whyte fight, forget your average sports fan.

You could put Wilder-Joshua on PPV here in the U.S. and probably do "okay" because it would be billed as for the world heavyweight championship. Two undefeated heavyweights with nearly all KOs. And it would do "okay."

    Wilder-Whyte, no.

Deontay Wilder could make more just waiting for Whyte to become a mandatory, and then have Hearn and Haymon go to purse bid, and Wilder grab 75 percent of the winning bid.

I understand he doesn't want to sell him short but 10 million is just too much. AJ, after KO'ing Wlad gets 20M. What did you do to deserve a 10M cash? I think he'll be happy to settle down with 5. He is just trying to negotiate. I believe he will take the fight. Because he has to. And as a matter of fact, he needs him. There aren't many fights for him to prove himself.

The fact that Wilder considers Whyte of all people to be a threat says a lot about his belief in himself.

Whyte isn't any better than anyone else in the WBC ratings. Beating Whyte isn't going to "prove" anything. He'd be another nice win over a WBC contender. Really nothing more. The fight just means more financially to Hearn because Hearn can sell it in the UK. To U.S. fans, Whyte, Washington, Miller, Chisora, no difference. They're just guys.

    Joshua-Wilder is the big fight.

Wilder has a master plan to buy the enter state of Alabama, turn it into a kingdom called Beoncyland and be the king/president/chief tweeter.

    For this he needs $7m.

Yeah I would have thought Alabama would be worth much less.

He doesn't see him as a threat. He sees Whyte as someone Hearn believes he can sell to the UK public. So Wilder wants to get paid. A Wilder-Whyte fight means nothing more than Wilder vs "anyone else in the top 10" to U.S. fans. In the UK, Hearn would sell it and make good money off of it. Wilder just wants to be paid what his share of a PPV like that in the UK would be worth. Wilder would be better off letting it go to purse bids. But Hearn doesn't want to wait that long to put that match together. So he'll have to come to terms with Wilder.

So there was this thread about Parker wanting $4M to fight Povetkin, which I actually thought was fair... Wilder thought he could do soooooo much better, and came up with $7M for Whyte. :yaay
