Oh boy... Fury is getting decapitated, Wilder knocked him down with standard foam padded gloves, in the second fight, before the 3rd round, he made his face red with single punches, Wilder already the hardest hitting heavyweight in history with foam padded gloves, imagine what he does to him with the Everlast MX. First time he uses them against Fury, Wilder is winning this in devastating fashion, a brutal KO. These are same gloves Floyd cried about when Maidana wanted to use them, Floyd also forbid McGregor using them in their fight. This is what McGregor's cut man had to say about the gloves four years ago. “When boxing gloves were first used, they used to be stuffed with horse hair,” McCormack said. “So what happened is you could actually manipulate the horsehair, you could push it and bring your knuckles out through the horse hair. To stop that, they developed the foam padding what we’re used to now. That’s become the standard, but certain places still use the horsehair glove. “There’s no actual rules against them, they’re still considered a legal boxing glove.” “Then we have what is called the ‘Mexican’ glove,” he continued. “Everlast do a glove called the MX, and basically the padding in that is very, very little. [So Floyd said] no MX glove, and no horse hair. It’s basically he wants.. you tear up someones face real bad with that stuff. The horse hair wouldn’t be used as much now, but the Everlast MX glove is still used. It’s a legal glove, but Floyd won’t have any of it.” https://themaclife.com/sports/differences-in-horse-hair-mexican-and-foam-gloves/ This is the manipulation of the horse hair gloves that Wilder is talking about, but now he is going to use the same gloves, it will be level playing field this time. Wilder needs more hand protection and hits just as hard more of a risk to Wilder than Fury. dummy Wilder should just go bareknuckle see how it works for him cracking his hand off Fury's dome
Everytime hes used those gloves, hes knocked out somebody. This is getting very interesting now. Theres now a 99.9% chance this fight will end in a devastating knockout.
As Fury said himself, Wilder can come to the ring bare knuckled if he likes, won't make a difference, Wilders getting KTFO
Sounds to me like wilder getting his excuses ready for why he was forced to foul out after he's DQ'd.
It's shocking that Wilder seems like he was caught off guard about his ability to choose different glove types/styles. His whole team seems like amateur hour when they're blown away by soft leather. Didn't "boxing genius" Malik know about all the different glove styles? Why would Wilder NOT be using a punchers glove? Glove type is always part of the negotiation and shouldn't be a surprise.
Everlast MX is as "puncher's glove" as it gets aside from Cleto Reyes (and some would even rate MX ahead of Reyes)
I remember in the buildup to Pac/Morales II that Pac announced he would be using Reyes for additional power. He had been forbidden from using them in the first fight. I don't think that was the difference, but he *did* get the TKO, so. ...
Could somebody explain to me why all boxers don't just wear these then, that they might increase the damage they can cause to their opponent?
Érik was very familiar with Reyes; he wore them many times himself (2/3 of the Barrera trilogy, switching to Winning for the rubbermatch - so basically right before the Pac trilogy started) ...which is probably a major reason he wanted Pac contractually obligated to use Winning like him, aside from just having a business arrangement with them.
Camps have to agree on gloves for each fight. (whether both combatants have to use the same brand, and if not which are permitted for either) There are many considerations besides "damage you can do to your opponent". Many fighters want to prioritize the minimization of injury risk for themselves, if they are concerned about their knuckles, wrists, etc. There is also comfort/tightness and the natural 'feel' of the fist, which can throw you off during live fight conditions. Many punchers gloves, Reyes in particular, can feel constrictive (which is why they weren't JMM's favorite, although he did use them sometimes).
