He was as dangerous a fighter who ever entered the ring. But he was never of robust physique and then took some huge, career altering batterings from Fury, and then he got old. He's a rich man's Max Baer. A better Earnie Shavers.
Fury destroyed him and showed everyone how to beat him, he showed them all you have to put him on the back foot. The punishment he took in the fury fights were brutal, and career changing
I rewatched the KO shot in slowmo and Wilder does a massive telegraph just before throwing the right which Zhang reads and follows with a dipping right hook that catches Wilder clean on the jaw as his own straight right sails over Zhang's right shoulder. Clear example of timing and technique beating speed (although Zhang's hands aren't slow by any means). As for Wilder being shot, no I don't think so. He's just fighting world class opposition now and being found wanting. His speed looked the same as it always was, and his right was actually a lot tighter and sharper than I can remember seeing it. Some very nice quick countershots he was throwing at Zhang and landing. It was a tactical mistake that led to him being caught, that familiar massive tell he always makes when trying to land a KO shot. He's always been open to counters from that, but not of the puddings he's been in the ring with were able to capitalise before.
He's the perfect example of a manufactured champion who who got thoroughly exposed when he actually stated fighting world class opponents with skills after the WBC stopped rigging their rankings with low to no skilled C, D and E levels Belly has skills J-Park has skills Big Bang has skills The only legit skilled guy he ever beat was Ortiz and neither fight was really competitive prior to The Dosser's power bailing him out. Ortiz, like Stiverne, has a short reach, lead feet, and a head which is a magnet for right hands ie. tailor made for The Dosser. And he was 38 in their first fight, the same age The Dosser is now, and had never fought any punchers
That might be one of the dumbest things I’ve read here. And to the your other point, Wilder is shot because Fury “shot” him. There’s a very clear difference between the Deonkey from the first fight and the third fight.
So? Whats that have to do with my post. He said Tyson never looked like ass like Wilder did today. My point was, he did.
There's a lot to this. Roy Jones is another example of that. He lived by his speed/reflexes. Once those started to go away, he was vulnerable.
It's exactly this, yeah both fighters are probably overrated for what they did but they were both dangerous fighters who were avoided till someone beat them and they fell out of their "prime" Idiots like lordlosh won't hear that though because they are too dangerous smoking ajs bone.
Not sure what Ortiz ever done to get rated by people no stand out wins and some stinker of fights against pretty average guys
The difference between the first and the second fight was, Wilder confidence was lot, cause he found his level. And that the id***** decide to gain 20 pounds of muscle from fight 1 to fight 2, and gassed after a couple of rounds. The whole beating Wilder took is overexaggerated by Fury fans to try him look better. Wilder was never old cold, which is the usual ending of a fighter durability/punch resistance. As far as WIlder took a beating, be at least consistent. He took a beating prior to Fury as well. Ortiz beat him badly till the KO. Plenty of other fighters landed on will on WIlder and was beating him, prior to the rounds he KO them with 1 shot. There was nothing wrong with Wilder punch resistance and durability. He eat some bombs from Parker and stays on his feet. He also eat some bombs from Zhang. This is the same Wilder, he always was. The reason he ain't throwing his usual wild swing punches is cause he is against life dogs that aren't allow him to throw, without making him pay, and he is hesitant, cause he doesn't know how to Box properly, how to set up his right hand to land consistently on a good defensively minded guy, who also knows how to approach the fight. Wilder was keep going to the right, to Zhang punches range, this hasn't nothing to do with Fury or anyone, this has to do that he doesn't know how to box a southpaw fighter, as he has always been limited.
Oh, and just want to mention something lastly on the topic. Wilder decline in some of his attributes was mostly because he was idiotic and gained 20lbs for Fury 2 fight. This is how you can kill your speed/explosiveness/agility/reflexes. Wilder didn't have bad reflexes earlier in his career and was able to dodge some of the shot. But i think that bulk up, which also seems to was pure muscle, seems to destroy the agility he had. And i will say this again. It wasn't that Fury was so impressive in Wilder 2. It was Wilder that was terrible coming in 20+ lbs heavier, which was the worst thing he could have done. You wanna talk about decline, then this is the starting point, and we should take credit from Fury wins then, just how you are trying to take from Parker and Zhang now.
