I've been adamant about this point for quite some time now. Wilder has been the recipient of an incredible amount of hatred by many posters on this forum, although a little bit of it IS JUSTIFIED, most of it isn't. We have now entered into a new era, where the ashes of the heavyweight division is now starting to be revived. A new American heavyweight has taken his place amongst the elite of the division. Deontay is somebody whom the world has been clamouring for. A fit, athletic, exciting, hard hitting American heavyweight who can bring boxing back to the main stage. But now that he's arrived, why the uneasy feeling? The underlying reason as to why he is so hated is because he is labelled as the next Mike Tyson. It's his greatest blessing because his name will always be out there and he'll be in the circle of discussions in any barber shop, but it is also unfortunately, his greatest curse. One that will linger with him for the rest of his career. It's his destiny. Any sort of slip-up/weakness whatsoever will bring about droves of negative criticism. Even after winning the WBC strap from a very game competitor, the same competitor that everyone exclaimed would be ducked by Wilder, he still gets flak for it. "Stiverne was sick" :huh "Wilder got lucky, he dodged a bullet" :huh "Stiverne was never even top 20" :huh He beats Scott, somebody who actually beat Glaskov but was robbed of the victory "Scott took a dive" :huh He literally dominated Molina, won 7/8 rounds and knocked him down a good 5 times and stopped him in the 9th "Wilder went life and death with him" :huh "Wilder has a horrific glass jaw!!!" :huh "He got exposed" :huh It's actually quite hysterical if you ask me. In conclusion, Wilder will continue to rack up victories and will be undisputed in the next two years. Even if he beats both Povetkin AND Wlad in dominating fashion, I know that he'll never be given the credit he so richly deserves. The endless amount of excuses will come flying our way. It will never be enough, whatever he does. His greatest blessing, but it's a curse he'll have to bear for the rest of his career. That's what he's plagued with.
He wont beat Wlad, he MIGHT beat Povetkin, and he wont ever be considered a great because hes sloppy and is a KO waiting to happen. Seriously, if you put him into a different generations talent pool there would be no talks of him period...But lucky enough for him, this generation of heavy's is horrid.
Incorrect. He will never be looked to as great because of how this scene is looking right now, not because of Wilder's abilities. It's because standards of him are so unfairly elevated, he'll never be looked to as great.
I remember a few people you once called the "next Mike Tyson" They soon got exposed at World level. As will Wilder. Wilder hasn't faced somebody who hits back yet. In 34 fights. Its no secret as to why he's avoiding anybody with a punch. He has a glass jaw. We saw his donkey legs last night. From a non-punching Journeyman. "World Champions" don't fight non-threats. It makes for boring predictable fights as he served up yesterday. Until he faces decent opponents. He's still a paper champion hype job to the boxing fans who know about the sport. ATM the team behind him are trying their damn hardest to sell him to the casuals. It seems even non-boxing fans know he's a complete hype job also due to the lack of PPV and the inability to sell out a stadium outside of Alabama.
Yeah, I'm also the real Julio Cesar Chavez. :nut Wilder gets knocked-out by Povetkin. He's just a trinket holder. Keeping that belt warm for Sasha.
