never seen wilder out of shape
i think he will be in shape when he is 50
    some people just are

as a pro sportsman i think that should be a pre requisite but in heavyweight boxing at least 50% maybe more of the top 20 think they only have to try and get in shape come fight time.

Pads are one of the most useless exercises in all of boxing for a professional fighter - next to the speedbag.

Boxing training is built around the heavybag. It is the be all and end all of a training regime.

I don't consider myself as a boxing expert but he leans in too much and doesn't protect his chin...

Are you kidding? I would put pad work as THE most important training for boxing skills. Anything you want to teach or learn something it's always on the pads is it not?

Bruh, you have it all wrong. Pads are just as valuable as heavy bags.

Every top boxer takes PEDs. They'd be insane not to. Some push it more than others and some have the protection and connections to get ahead of the game, but there isn't a single clean athlete in any weight division in boxing in the world.

We all need to wake up.

That's the one thing I'll give Wilder credit for. He always comes to fight in superb condition.

Him, Jennings and Steve Cunningham are just ridiculous gym rats.

I don't mind it. If his defence relied on blocking or parrying shots then it would be an issue but his defence revolves around head and upper body movement. By leaning forward and putting his weight slightly on his front foot it shortens the distance he needs to reach his opponent while giving him room to lean back and counter against any attacks.

If he was more upright and tried to utilise a style based on head movement while leaning back and countering it would be hard as he'd have to lean all the way back meaning he couldn't get any leverage on his counters while putting himself in a bad position were his weight is on his rear foot.

One of the reasons why Washington was able to have so much success was he was able to use his reach and jab to push Wilder back into an upright position with his jab and once in that position Wilder is more vulnerable to follow up shots.

    No and No.

Technique, combinations and power punching is best taught and developed on the heavybag. The decline of the heavybag in the training regimes of amateurs and professionals is the single biggest reason that fighters cannot punch like they used to. The only way to develop power and conditioning is to consistently knock the air out of a 300lbs bag.

Timing, defense, ring craft is developed in sparring.

The punch mitts were developed to warm a fighter up in the dressing room in the moments before the fight itself. They were not intended to be built into the everyday training. Louis, Robinson, Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Benitez, Ali (the list of legends in endless) did not use the mitts for anything but a media day workout or warm-up in the locker room. They were built on the heavybag and sparring.

The training regime of Iron Mike Tyson is well documented (probably in greater detail than any fighter in history) and Cus D'amato was adamant in his opinion that the pads were useless, and he had very little regard for the speedbag and double end bag.

How did you even come up with an opinion saying that the decline of the heavy bag is the reason why fighters can't punch like they used to? You can't develop power, but you can develop technique. The mitts provide a target foryou to aim for. To say that they are useless is hilarious. That's very old school thinking.

Punch mitts can be used anyway that you want them to be used from warming up to giving a fighters a target to place a punch. Floyd Mayweather is known for his legendary pad work. The trainer holding the pad has to be responsible and good enough to teach technique when using them.

The speed bag is for endurance with your arms and the double end bag is for speed and accuracy. To say that there is very little regard for both is down right hilarious-no offense.
