Is it just me or does Wilder look a bit boney in the face and sullen in the eyes? Perhaps he's ill? I know his plan is to get on his bike, but man, at 214, his lightest in 9 years, has he come in too light for this fight?

You make an excellent point I’m not sure a man with his frame thinks it’s ok to come in that light vs a heavy handed Ortiz.

The only thing I could think of is the possibility of him cutting out red meat from his diet which when I experimented with it myself took off 5 immediate pounds in a month from my 6’3 frame 220 to 215 with no other change in diet or exercise

I was actually surprised, as his strategy is one which I wouldn't take. I think he may be giving up some of his power to try and box and move more, whereas if I'm fighting Ortiz, I'm trying to keep him on the back foot, unsettled and probably coming in the heaviest in years. He has that very tired look in his face.

Wilder has been heading in this direction for a while now. His highest weight was 229 pounds in 2015. But since then he's been gradually coming in lighter in subsequent fights. I don't know why. It can't be by mistake or nonchalance. He's a world class athlete, they have nutritionists for this stuff.

Did you replace red meat with something that was equally as calorie dense? Wilder has a nutritionist I'm sure and they would be hitting the required daily calorie intake with or without red meat.

He was very lean and somewhat slim even at his heaviest weight

but now as thin as he looks, he must be struggling to gain more endurance, I suppose

but it has to come at the cost of power, he seems to have lost size and that’s not good again someone like Ortiz who is a durable tank and can punch like a jackhammer

I see Ortiz catching Wilder early to mid, and wilder being knocked out

    Count in it

Maybe a bit more salmon from what I recall but i certainly wasn’t shy with the seasoning.

Definitely, this is what I was thinking, Wilder looks skinny on the best of occasions, and at 214, for a guy who is 6'7, against an Ortiz shot he is going to be unsteady in such a string bean frame, especially if hes trying to move around. Trading in power is not a good idea vs Ortiz IMO. Even too light as he is will cost him in the endurance department, hes giving up a lot for just a tiny bit extra of speed.

Can't imagine a 6'7" guy would been very agile or fast of feet anyways at any weight. He has such a high center of gravity. If I was Wilder I'd have stayed at 230 and tried to hone my skills and keep my guard tight.

Definitely, even try to bulk up to 235 -240, he has such a huge frame and great power, why not use it? I think the trick to beating Ortiz is to keep him backing up and unsettled, he already showed against Scott he can destroy a runner. Just don't know where team Wilder is going with a very gaunt and fragile 214. Have to wait till tomorrow night to see.

Wilder would have to be taking stupid to the next level to drain himself in a division with no weight limit.

I dont understand why he has come in so light. He already has enough of speed advantage over Ortiz

I think it’s a mistake to be this light against Ortiz or any of the other Champs for that matter. 214 is unhealthy light for a 6’7 heavyweight boxer, something must be wrong...

Actually, Wilder appears to be in excellent shape. He must have felt Ortiz is a real threat and trained very hard to be ready to go 12 rounds if necessary.

I'm certain Wilder will beat the old man tomorrow night. Ortiz is too fat and will gas after several rounds, then Wilder will probably knock him out or at least give him a severe beating.
