Actually, this may be a bad sign for Ortiz. Wilder has clearly opted to box in this one, and if he's any good at all he should be able to keep gramps Ortiz at the end of his jab. I am half - impressed that Wilder is finally starting to take his career seriously and half disappointed that we may not see the Ortiz KO win we've been hoping for.

I think you nailed it. The moment Gassiev and Usyk hit heavyweight, Wilder's going to cruiser!

Malik Scott tried this. Ortiz won every round and sat Scott on his ass 8-10 times. Just don't think Wilder has those skills. Ortiz is a far superior fighter to Stiverne.

I'd equally ask you why you think Wilder's in great condition simply because he's weighing in the lightest he has in years. This isn't a man who has a history of coming into fights out of shape.

Fun fact: Scott was actually heavier than Ortiz in that fight.

The training to maintain your reflexes at the highest point, will lead to weight loss, all other things being equal.

We do know added bulk/muscle above your optimum slow your reflexes and slow the speed of your punches. Look at what happened to Roy when he moved up and dropped back down from HW, that loss of his reflexes in defence led to him being ICED twice by guys who would not have have landed on him prior.

Perhaps Wilders team has made a judgment call to maintain/enhance his strengths which is based around athleticism, reflexes and speed and decided to enhance it? Wilder is not going to improve as a boxer at 32, so all he has is to maintain his strengths and advantages over other HWs. Of course eventually he does slow down and if he is still boxing then he will start getting caught and knocked out- thats father time and father time comes for everyone.

I do not think we can automatically make a call and say he is too light or emaciated. He will clearly not keep on losing weight with every fight unless he is starving himself and that is clearly not the case here. There is a low point based on his current diet and training regime.

It's obvious that Wilder is coming in very light to run, knowing that Haymon's judges will give him a decision, this is his plan......................I would pick Ortiz to win but Wilder has HAYMON BOXING INSURANCE, still, what if the fight is not fixed?

Old grandpa Ortiz won't be able to lay a glove on him. Deontay has added speed, and will preserve his devastating power!

Wilder already had good speed, power, and endurance though.

I guess he thinks that he needs even more speed.
