After the Stiverne rematch; "It ain't no need for me to get on the scale no more. I'm always low when it comes to weight, but we don't even really think about it no more. The weight is gonna be what it is. It’s funny how my body works. You know, in camp I'm always heavier. I'm always like in the 230s, something like that. It's like when it's time to come to war, it's always like my weight drops. And I don't take nothing. I've done tried the chefs, I've done tried the nutrionists. I've done tried all that stuff and it seems like the same thing over and over again. So I just got comfortable with what I am. I tell people all the time that I'd rather be the part than look the part. Looking the part, you know, it only gets you so far. But actually being that part, it gets you to where I am now. You know, so I don't really care about guys having more weight than I. It will never matter, ever, because one thing about it that people can't measure, nor can they weigh, is my heart. It's big. It's heavy. So when these guys fight me, they better be ready."
From what I gather, he doesn’t actually focus on his weight at all in recent camps. He says he just trains and whatever weight he ends up at, he ends up at. He’s not trying to be any weight in particular
Nah he knows he has to run for 12 rounds and the lighter he is the better for his stamina. Compare that to fat Ortiz who has to carry his flabby belly around the ring for 12 rounds, he will gas out half way.
This is hilarious... Like he thinks he's actually took any challenges to "be the part" Really hope Ortiz puts a prolonged beating on this tool.
People are looking way too much into a mere 6lbs compared to his last fight, Kell brook just moved up 7lbs and doesn't look that much different to how he looked at 147, Eubank jr looked practically the same at 160 as 168 You are not going to visually notice 6lbs on a 6ft7 214lb man, Any one who thinks he looks smaller and Skinner than last time is using their imagination.
shows he has trained very hard IMO a credit to wilder as he has faced some easy fights/ yet turns up in every fight ripped and in shape as if he was facing a dangerman/ wilder will not win this fight in the pocket / he needs to keep it long all night / in and out /keep his punches straight and box smart. his weight indicates that wilder might have a gameplan for this fight and will not just wing it as he has done so many times. that shows proffesionalism and dedication. i have picked ortiz to win / but the fact that ortiz is shorter than advertised and wilder looks to have trained like a demon evens it up a bit more for me. still will not change my pick though ortiz is the more skilled fighter and wilder makes so many mistakes .
he could be overtrained coming in this light...........or he just cut out all the weight Training nonsense and focused on cardio. i heard he has added Swimming as a new Focus Point in his Training. Swimming is the best Training period, will slim you down and give you all the cardio in the world. wilder, as tall as he is and as hard as he can hit is a serious threat to anyone. especially with good cardio.
I'm as surprised as anyone at Wilder's weight but I also remembered that the 6'6 Ernie Terrell weighed approximately 212.
Ortiz looks like a fat pudding with low testosterone. He's fatter than usual. Ortiz will be zapped of energy half way. Wilder can put on a bit more by fight night.
V Szpilka he said he felt sluggish early on, had heavy feet. Hence some of his *wilder* windmilling. (* Pun intended*) I don't know if he dropped much for Arreola but he looked far quicker v Washington. Of course unless he just DKSAB, he knows that Szpilka is a fleet footed unorthodox puncher who also happens to be a SP. The Giant Black Half Boriqua is an orthodox HW, who relies on size and solid fundamentals, even if they appear mechanical due to having no hand speed nor footwork...curse of the SHW. His best performance was v BVerno, who just can't fight off the front foot and was carrying around excess fat from a yr of partying with chickenson. IDK about this 215. It's too light imo. He should be filling out rather than slimming down. Focusing on spacing with footwork and getting his hands back after he punches and learning to wrap up the smaller guys during the bum's rush. 235-245 should be his goal. A little bit of padding over the abs and ribs and some muscle concentration on his legs, neck, back and shoulders. Hopefully for boxing's sake Ortiz has all the strength of a 13 y/o obese diabetic from his systemic abuse of Anabolic steroids and subsequent cold turkey withdrawal sending him into acute hypogonadism. A proven multi abuser of the hard stuff doesn't deserve to compete in this sport much less become a proper champion. Wilder for all his faults is at least clean, colorful, entertaining and a Boogeyman of sorts. Ortiz has the personality of sloth, the looks of chomo, and again, a career cheat. Thankfully Ortiz jaw is as bad as Wilders and the lead R hand should put him right out
