Of course it’s other successful athletes that been the same size but I don’t understand how Wilder can go from close to 230 to this... it’s just not normal to go down in weight like this while getting older, it doesn’t make sense. Idk, hopefully he do well anyway, I’m sure he knows what he’s doing.
Amir Mansour is a recent heavyweight that shaved off a bunch of weight after being at a steady, consistent one for years, for some reason. He labored in the performances he came in ultra light in.
Lean frame + quick metabollism If you maul Wilder that is your best chance to beat him as he wont have natural strength or body leverage to push you back. If you give him space, his long arms mean he can keep you off and chin you.
He looked a bit drained and the weight is probably an indication of how hard he trained. Ortiz looked a touch soft but bullish and strong. He's in shape.
Wilder knows this is his biggest fight. He intends to run around for 12 rounds like Stiverne 1. jib jab using his height. Ortiz should be able to exploit his bad footwork and inability to box.
If Wilder is coming in at 214 for speed, boxing from range etc, my question is, if Ortiz closes him down, will Wilder regret the lack of bodyweight to cope with the close quarter battle, street fight type war? I think he will.
Does Kong have the Chin to get in and impose that kind of fight on Deontay? How many explosive punchers have tested that Chin since he's been a Pro? This fight should be very, very interesting. I just hope there's absolutely zero controversy whatsoever surrounding the outcome.
In answer to your initial question, we will soon find out. On second question i am sure Ortiz will have been aware and made plans to deal with Wilders explosiveness, whether Ortiz will be able to cope with it, again we will soon find out. The question could of course be turned around and ask, whether Wilder has faced a fighter of Ortiz standard and if he has a chin to cope. I too truly hope there is zero controversy surrounding the outcome.
I'm well aware of the "questions" many have regarding Wilder's durability. In fact, not many (here) even have questions about that -- based on observation, people here just widely believe he doesn't have the ability to take a shot at all. With Kong... it's different. I haven't witnessed anybody bringing up (or even questioning) Kong's durability or punch resistance -- not much before Wilder was confirmed to be fighting him or after. We will probably get some answers tonight.
he just came in light for movement.. if he can't ko Ortiz early hes just gonna jab and run for the 9-10 other rounds ... if Ortiz ever catches up to him and hits that body though he might be in trouble.
I think that folk are truly unsure who will prevail hence the interest, the 214 pound weigh in of Wilder adds to the interest. I personally am less focused upon it being for the title and more on it possibly being a even fight, both bringing something to the fight.
