With the rumours that Eric Molina is fighting Joseph Parker and Artur Szpilka is fighting TBA in late April does this rule either guy out of fighting Wilder? Or can they still fight him? When's Wilder ready again? May? June? July? Could Tony The Tiger get his shot? :bbb:bbb:boxxatriot WBC Top 15: 1. Alexander Povetkin 2. Mike Perez 3. Tyson Fury 4. Bermane Stiverne 5. Vyacheslav Glazkov 6. Lucas Browne 7. Anthony Joshua 8. Andy Ruiz 9. Manuel Charr 10. Tony Thompson 11. Artur Szpilka 12. Eric Molina 13. Carlos Takam 14. Chris Arreola 15. Steve Cunningham
I'm thinking Glazkov, probably in June. Wilder's broken hand was supposed to be ready to allow him to resume training sometime this month, so not before then.
Tarver. They're both under the same umbrella. He has some name recognition and would be an easy win for Wilder.
Glazkov is a perfect opponent for Wilder right now. Undefeated Eastern European image is perfect for marketing the fight and he's absolutely no risk for Wilder. He can't find a better high-reward/low-risk opponent in his career.
Glazkov's promoter, Kathy Duva, sued Al Haymon recently. And Glazkov didn't look good against Rossy and Cunningham. I don't think they're going to do him any favors by giving him a title shot. I think Spzilka is still the front runner. And he's probably as good as Glazkov. I don't think either beats Wilder anyway. Both would be an easy first defense. Spzilka = Alfredo Evangelista
Not sure about that. He has a decent chin, and high work rate. This could pose problems. Not that he's a world beater but.... I figure Szpilka is still in line. He's getting a showcase fight with PBC, and he could fight Wilder in July. Especially if the TBA is a pushover for Szpilka. Tarver is more risky too. Szpilka while talented has chin issues, and he has been on TV plenty already having been featured on espn, and HBO, so he has visibility in the US to some extent unlike Charr.
Spzilka is a decent opponent but Glazkov'd be by far the better choice if it could be arranged. Glazkov not looking good against Cunningham or anyone else is the reason he's a good choice. These fights are marketed to people who don't follow boxing closely and most never even heard of either Spzilka or Glazkov, but Glazkov is an "undefeated Eastern European" whereas Spzilka has been KO'd recently, which makes Glazkov a lot more marketable. Risk-wise, they are more or less the same. If I were Wilder, I'd absolutely avoid Tarver. He's a low reward/high risk opponent. You don't do a tune up fight against a highly experienced, talented fighter who knocked out cold a (nearly) prime Roy Jones. With some punchers luck, he could pull off a Thompson vs Price.
I don't know "where" Glazkov is more marketable. Deontay Wilder vs a "Eastern European" doesn't sell tickets just because the Eastern European is undefeated. Szpilka (and Fonfara) sold 10,000 seats at the Chicago White Sox ballpark in 2013. Wilder-Szpilka in Chicago would sell plenty of tickets and fill a lot of seats this summer.
Exactly. In 2013 Szpilka was the "undefeated Eastern European", Glazkov 2015 = Szpilka 2013 and Wilder can be Glazkov's Jennings.
No, in 2013 he was a popular Polish heavyweight ... just like he is today. Chicago has one of the largest Polish communities in the world - more than a million people. There aren't that many Ukrainians in the entire U.S. Glazkov doesn't have a built in audience in the U.S., and he isn't exactly thrilling anyone with his in-the-ring performances. The Cunningham fight sucked the life out of the crowd there to watch Kovalev-Pascal.
since when do fat , 43 year old heavyweights with 3 losses in their last 7 fights get a title shot? :-(
