The Fightnews article is a publicity stunt. It says nothing. It's the sort of thing no one ran before there was an internet because it says nothing.

Unless they are reprinting a press release, Fightnews normally includes the name of the writer. There is no writer named.

It reads like something you'd hear on a bus.

"Sources" say Wilder was offered $2 million. The person offering the money isn't mentioned. No promoter is mentioned.

It just says the fight would take place at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. In addition to the fight, it says it will be an all-heavyweight card and also that night there will be an "historic event." (The casino probably signed a new sponsor.)

Briggs fought at that casino once five years ago in one of his one-round fights. This guy was the promoter. http://boxrec.com/person/532910?role=promoter

He also runs the "heavyweight factory" down there which has produced NO heavyweights.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that guy (Henry Rivalta) phoned them because he's staging a card full of no-names. Expect Shannon Briggs to fight yet another no-hoper on that date with the heavyweight factory regulars on the undercard ... and Briggs will claim he was "supposed" to fight Wilder for the title but Wilder pulled out.

In other words ... it's called a publicity stunt to hype a cra*py card in Hollywood, Florida, with an actual budget of about $50,000 total (not $2 million for one guy).

Wilder is going to headline a prime time network television card in late September. None of these jokers are going to be involved.

And Fightnews should have a little more credibility than this.

All I know is Wilder needs to fight someone worth while after his last fight. Don't milk the belt.

I think you're spot on. Briggs is full of shet, this is a publicity stunt. I am in no way defending Wilder's choice of opposition but this "offer" is a phoney one.

I'd watch it. Briggs has a good early round puncher's chance.

Briggs has the power to knock Wilder out and although Briggs is only 6 feet 4 inches tall, he is a much bigger boned man, heavier, stronger, but I have read Wilder will fight Arreola, if Arreola looks bad in his next fight.................not so sure Wilder will fight either, probably a rematch with Sconiers........................or some wino from the alley...........

Wilder said the offer was fake and that Briggs was delusional, as per the scene.
