It`s been commeted on by a couple of youtubeers that Wilder`s weight plunged from 250 to 214 for the Ortiz fight after Vada drug testing was enforced in Wilder`s training camp, now Wilder is saying he wants to bulk up again to the weight he was at for the Szpilka fight (250) because he`s tired of fighters being able to push his slender body around, how will he be able to put all this weight on? WAs he on steroids before Vada was introduced into his training camp? This content is protected
Deontay Wilder has never weighed 250 pounds for a fight. Wilder's weight plunged from 220 for the Stiverne rematch to 214 for the Ortiz fight (six pounds). He weighed 219 when he won the title from Stiverne. He weighed 228 for Szpilka. (not 250). He's probably too light right now. 228 seemed like a good weight.
Anywhere in the 220s is a good weight for him. He's a naturally lean man, so he shouldn't be coming into fights in the 240s like a lot of guys his height.
Hes probably going to get on the food, cheat the system with a higher calorie intake than expenditure. Doubt Wilder goes anywhere above 230 though. He cant box with the best at world level. Bulking up for the bigger guys would be suicide for Wilder, he'll deplete his speed, movement and power, his 3 best assets, for small gains in strength, which he doesnt require at all as he pot shots from the outside and is never going to be an inside fighter without getting decked.
He was definitely on something to make it onto the flight back to Tuscaloosa as quick as he did after getting wind of Povetkin testing positive for a strong cup of coffee. His ass was on that seat before the person who informed him of the good news on the other end had time to hang up.
He'll need to start squatting big weight then, them spindly legs are where he should put some mussels on
He is highly suspect. - drops from 228 to 212 (signs of cycling off) - talks of gaining 20lbs within a year - possible injury to right hand/arm (HGH helps to repair muscle damage in general. not just building muscle) - constantly claiming others to be on steroids (guilty attitude/insecure)
considering the quads and surrounding muscle groups are some of the strongest in the body; most people will find they have a half decent squat when done correctly.
I mean he puts up pretty big weight and does so with decent technique. There was a vid floating around of him doing box squats with about 400lbs or thereabouts, but I can't seem to find it anymore.
I've had plenty guys come into the gym with the typical "I love the mirror" build....all upper body, bulging pecs, delts and what not. Every single time they took this old fella's advice and really went into beast mode with their squats, they invariably packed on muscle downstairs (and upstairs btw). Granted, this is only personal experience and I don't doubt there are plenty posters here more knowledgeable than me, but I'm a sucker for the big movements and I've never seen them fail when folks really put their heart into it. Also, I'm not gonna throw accusations around, but a huge upper body and spindly legs is never very far from substance abuse in my experience
I don't mean he literally can't pack any more muscle on his legs. Of course he could if he focused on it. I'm just saying he isn't a complete stranger to the movement.
Wilders max weight was 228. His weight did start to decrease by 2-3 lbs each fight after he started drug testing though.
