Way I see it, a challenge is a challenge. Let Wilder shut him up If he can. You can't put all the blame on Wilder for these other guys not working out. Shut up big mouth Briggs and move onto Povetkin.
I don't know what happened with Jennings, but I can't see why Wilder would duck him. He's only had 20 fights and he is not a big puncher. I don't see him as being a big enough risk for Wilder to go to the trouble of ducking. I'm not certain why Takam was not considered either, but again I get the feeling he may simply not be on team Wilder's radar as much as ours.
Honestly, I love boxing and there is just not much else worth defending. Deontay is at least entertaining, most of the rest of the division is boring. Fury is good but boring. Anthony Joshua is intriguing but still has a ways to go. I like David Haye too but there is no telling when he'll flake out and retire again over some injury or another, awesomely talented but not sure he has the heart of a champion to easy going. Jennings is good, but not a puncher and still needs some experience. Wlad is good too, but I'm just tired of him. Povetkin is tough is nails and a wrecking machine, but honestly I'm just not that big on Ruskies. Maybe its Rocky 4 still entrenched in me, maybe its communism I dunno. I'm a child of the 80's. Not much of anyone else worth discussing.
If they managed to get a fringe level European contender, I'm sure they've heard about Takam too. And stylisticly, It would be a good prep for Povetkin and Wilder could make a statement stopping the guy quicker than his mandatory. Punching power isn't everything in sweet science. Jennings showed that he can take a punch, he's very fast and he has solid defence and fundamenals with bigger reach than Wilder. He'd be a great test for him. Both Jennings and Takam would be good fights for Wilder and risky fights to an extend. And Wilder and his team made it very very very clear they don't want anything risky until they get Povetkin or unification.
Wilders team never heard if Takam... but they had no problem finding Duhaupuss!!! School Teacher Eric Molina too!!! pathetic... they're playing games with Briggs... Mansour is too dangerous too even though he struggled bad in recent fights... last minute they choose a powder puff bum for the january fight!!! :yep
It's sad I guess that I was relieved to see Briggs looking like the most likely opponent. He's not even a top 20 hw anymore, but at least its a new test for Wilder other than Stiverne or a never was (although, Briggs is like a supersized version of Stiverne, they fight very much alike). I can't help but think with his power, size and chin, he'd make for a decent test for Wilder. That said, his last win over a top opponent was NINE AND A HALF YEARS AGO. I've defended Wilder for awhile now, but until or unless he fights Povetkin etc, I'm done. He's making a mockery of the sport with his undeserved title challengers.
Briggs is no Joke Last time Wlad was stopped (2004) Last time Vitali was stopped (2003) Last time Briggs was stopped (1998) Wilder is taking on the most Iron chinned opponent possible :thumbsup
If Wilder KOs Wlad, he KOed a guy who been KOed 3 times till 2004 If Wilder KOs Briggs, he KOed an iron chinned guy last stopped 1998 No doubt at this point Wilder KOing Briggs is more worthy than KOing Wlad :think
