When it is all said and done, who will have had the better career/resume? Interested in seeing where you guys think the bar is at for Deontay Wilder :good
Of course, we all know Wilder hasnt beaten anybody, but can you guess if when Deontay's career is over if he will have beaten a few ranked contenders? Will he ever have beaten a name contender like Andrew Golota? Will he ever see he 3rd round of a fight with the universally recognized champion? Or will he exceed all of these accomplishments? By how much?:think
no no and no he sucks that bad he will get smashed by stiverne and you will never ever hear another peep from him
Basically just trying to surpass Grant's wins over Golota, Savarese, and Puritty with Tye Fields and Frans Botha. Wilder already has two comparable with his KO's of Liakhovich and Scott. Honestly even Wilder's journeyman beaten in Audley, Gavern, and Firtha are worth mentioning next beyond those listed above. Comparing Wilder to Michael Grant is the first time where I've actually looked fondly on Wilder's resume. That isn't good for either. Wilder doesn't have to be close to great to be able to have a better resume than Grant. I'm not convinced but I'd strongly lean that he does (mostly because he will have the promotional platform to do so and, lets face it if he beats Stiverne in January then he's already close to).
If Wilder beats Stiverne, that would be a bigger win than any that Grant has had in his career. Grant's best win was a crazy Golota.
You're kidding right?? :nut Wilder's opposition isn't even CLOSE to Grant's. Washed up Liakhovich or overrated Malik Scott are somehow comparable to Golota, Savarese and Botha? Come on! atsch And never wases like Harrison, or tomato cans like Firtha and Gavern are somehow comparable to a durable journeyman like Purrity? Puh-leez Oh and let's not forget that Grant faced that level of comp much earlier in his pro career than Wilder - who basically fought total stiffs for five years before "moving up" to the washed up name opponents like Harrison and Liakhovich. You can try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear all you want, but the fact remains that Wilder has faced very soft competition, some of the softest I've ever seen a hyped prospect face in 35 years of following boxing.
Grant has a lot of power but was just not a talented fighter. He had nothing but that long right hand that he threw. No jab or left hook to speak of and just looked plain awkward in the ring. Wilder also has tremendous power and you can tell he has some talent and skills. His balance looks good compared to Grant. Wilder also has a decent jab and left hook and actually throws them with conviction instead of pawing with his left trying to just set up a right hand. Wilder is also a hell of a lot faster than Grant ever was. I personally was a big fan of Grant and even late in his career when he was trying to pile on some wins I was rooting for him to put something together so he could get a decent payday for himself. Before its all said and done I'd say Wilder is be known as a better fighter than Grant but I can absolutely see why some people think they are similar but Wilder just has a little more to his game than Grant
problem is, he will get thrashed by stiverne..... and his promotional platform has been good at hiding him
its unimaginable that a U.S. Heavyweight Medalist , the first one since Ray Mercer and Bowe back in 1988 is never on ANY PPV cards of golden boy.....never a headline on showtime or HBO in over 5 years or 31 fights. Anthony Joshua is all over ever PPV since he turned pro. Ray Mercer was headline on ESPN cards in his first year....he made his pro debut on the Duran-Barkley PPV Wilder is hidden for a reason because he is that bad.....
I expected the question to be "who punches harder?", which is actually somewhat of a difficult call at this point. Wilder clearly has a lot to do in his career if he wants it to be said that his was even as good as Grant's, let alone better. Time (and careful management) is on his side, however - whereas Grant, while still technically active, probably isn't going to be icing his own cake too much. With his resume, WYSIWYG, as-is.
