Grant ended up being a good heavyweight, he never lived up to the hype around him, which I think hurts his standing at this point.

Grant doesn't have any kind of great wins on his record but for a couple years leading up to his fight with Lewis he put together a nice run.

His best win was Golota(not the most satisfying way). He beat a number of fringe contenders at that time-Izon and Savareese.

Then he picked up a large number minor wins in his career-Sullivan,Cole, an old Botha, Gonzalez,Abdin, Sanders, Purrity, etc. Nothing great there but when you put all those small wins together they do add up.

Wilder has beaten Scott which is actually a nice win but the way it ended has detracted from it. Liakovich was a good heavyweight and Harrison and Beck were once decent. But all three were either shot or close to it.

Outside of one nice win and 3 faded-shot named fighters the only thing left to Wilder's resume are guys like Manswell, Gavern, Price etc.

Right now Grant's record is clearly better than Wilder's. Could Wilder eventually pass Grant? Hard to say since he's so untested at the moment.

you were right the first time, well sorta...those 3 were beyond shot

    Liakovich - 37 years old, lost 4 of 6 (3 by KO)

Harrison - 42 years old and was knocked out by price the previous year in 1 round

Beck - lost 7 in a row, all by KO

I would say of the three Beck was probably the most shot. Like you said he lost 7 straight by ko and none of the guys ko'ing him were top 10 heavies either outside of Thompson.

Good thread and good poll. Good to see General forum calls it correctly despite its infamy.

Grant has a good list of wins:
    stoppages:
Andrezj Golota, Corey Sanders, Tye Fields, Al Cole, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, David Izon, Ahmed Abdin.
    decisions:
Ross Puritty, Lou Savaresse, Jeff Wooden.

Even if Wilder will stop a 37 years old Stiverne whom was already stopped before, he will never even come close to Grant's quality of resume and is obviously a very protected fighter.
A title shot after 0 meaningful fights.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the thread. I feel like beating Stiverne for the WBC title would go a long way. Add 2 more top 10 wins to that and Wilder is right there. Of course, we know that isn't going to happen. You don't go from beating total bums to instantly beating guys in the top 5.
Only thing I disagree with really is that Tye Fields is a good stoppage. That guy sucked. Hey, does Wilder have a better resume than Tye "Big Sky" Fields?

Yeah, this is what really irks people about Wilder. His record is so obviously a hoax - with some of the worst tomato cans I've ever seen a HW prospect face, and for MUCH longer than is usually the case.

I love how people think Wilder is such a big puncher too. Yeah, a big puncher against cab drivers and a couple of washed up fringe contenders. He's also clearly packing china in his mandible, something Stiverne is gonna expose early.

Both of you should not count on Stiverne beating him since:
    1) Stiverne was already stopped in his pro career
    2) Stiverne will be 37 years old
    3) Stiverne is much smaller
    4) Dives for cash do happen
    5) Corrupt judges and referees do happen.
    6) Other scams happen too.

Stiverne is shorter, but much heavier/stronger. Stiverne getting stopped was more of an exhaustion thing after unsuccessfully trying to finish a guy. His patience, high defense and wicked counter punch is going to do hilarious things to Deontay. I am fully counting on it. I am very very sure, to the point where I would be genuinely shocked if it got to round 4 and Wilder was still fighting.
The only thing I really question is if Wilder will be knocked out cold by the big sweeping right hand counter, or if he will do a comical 6'7 chicken dance then get hit again and dropped.:good

    :amen

More apt thread title would be who would have a better career, Tye Fields of Wilder. Wilder sucks, pure and simple

Seriously this is first time I have seen anyone other than MVC on these boards to use words like Wilder, talent and skills in the same sentence. His punching technique is the worst I have ever seen in a heavyweight contender.

Cant see stiverne taking a dive...they won't pay enough for him to miss a unification fight vs Wlad.

Grant had the ***** to get into the ring with Lennox Lewis, Wilder only fights dudes who are there purely for a paycheck and coming off of knockout losses, he's gonna be in for a shock when they put him in with Stiverne and he actually hits back.
