    Wilder might have figured he'd make 2-3 times those $1 million voluntary defenses against tomato cans, then cash in on a $15m purse when team Povetkin bids big.

    He figured $10 million then (1 year ago) was a low-ball offer.

    So now the purse is $7 million, and he made those three bouts that made him $1 million each or something. So he still got his 10 million, just he had to work much more for it LOL

    Wilder and his handlers look like a amateurs right now business-wise. Or at least they don't give a **** about Wilder's best interest.

    I actually expected the Russians to bid more, but I'm not surprised Haymon didn't.

    Here's why:

    Al has no stake in Povetkin. So, if Al bid $15 million, he'd receive a minimum of $945k from that fight. (15 mil x 90%, that result x 70%. Finally, 10% of that gets us the manager's cut)

    By allowing the Russians to win, he'll collect over $440k at least, without putting up any PBC funds.

    That $15 mil can now be invested in house fights where Al gets management fees from both fighters, clearing him 20% of the purse value, or $3 million.

    So, for the same $15 million of PBC money, Al will personally make at least ~$3.5 million as opposed to $945k (slightly more if Deontay wins).

    The dude is an expert in getting himself paid, but he pretty much hung Deontay out to dry on this one.

    I got insider news that this was a plot from Haymon, he's got a masterful plan lined up, one that none of you guys can possibly comprehend.

    Fair enough, from Haymon's perspective.

    Yeah boxing matches have aired at that time, to significantly lower ratings and thus promoters and networks tend to try and avoid it for high end matchups.

    Partially because of all the other sports you mention also airing at that time.

    Seeing you try and spin losing a purse bid to Russians as something good or a part of some master plan is pretty amusing though.

    It was an assumption that Rybansky will put the same bid he did vs Wlad, will explain later why he didn't :smoke

    I'm not spinning anything. Haymon doesn't have to pay for the fighters purses. So I asked will it air on network television on NBC or CBS. If it's in the U.S., it can air at night. If it's in Russia, it can air on a Saturday afternoon.

    We've spent months here debating about Haymon having to pay for fighters purses and pay for time on the networks. Well, now he's got a big fight where he doesn't have to pay for the fighters' purses. And we can see it on NBC or CBS to boot.

    That's great news. It could be of the least expensive shows Haymon has aired in the U.S. and the most high profile.

    On top of that, Wilder's going to get the biggest payday of his career.

    And if Haymon won the bid, the fight probably would've had to have been put on PPV, because it would've cost too much to pay the fighters AND buy time on a network.

    SO the fans could be winners, too, in that we get to see it for free.

    The LOSER here is:

    1. Alexander Povetkin - because HE IS NOT making the largest purse of his career. Not by a long shot. And he's going to have to fight Deontay Wilder in order to win the WBC belt. He doesn't get to fight for a vacant strap against some middling WBC contender like he hoped. And Al Haymon didn't overbid, like I think they expected.

    (I actually think Haymon was surprised by how low the Russian's bid was, too. I think everyone was. Both sides seemed to think the other guy was going to offer more. Both underbid.)

    Wilder is going to earn the biggest purse of his career.

    What do you think Povetkin is saying to his handlers right now?

    Do you think Povetkin woke up this morning thinking he was going to have to fight Deontay Wilder for the WBC title for $1 million-plus?

    If Povetkin loses (and I believe he will), this is his CASHOUT fight.

    I'm sure it's not the payout he imagined it would be.

    An alternative formula :think

    Bidder A, Pays Bidder B certain $*,***,*** to come into an agreement on how much to bid

    In return bidding handlers make extra $ without having to pay the WBC & fighters extra $ :smoke

    Bidding wars:
    * Hurt Bidders
    * Benefit WBC
    * Benefit Fighters

    So if bidders make deals, it puts the fighters & WBC under their control & they have higher profit :smoke
