I agree with you, I don't think that those guys "hate" Haymon or anything. In fact, this is probably the first time they had to deal with each other.

I have no information on how much Showtime pays for the international broadcasting rights, but I assume that they will pay more than for Framtpon-Quigg, Brook, Arthur Abraham etc. HBO didn't pay some enormous sum for Klitschko/Povetkin, so I doubt that Showtime/Haymon would have to damage their budget in order to secure the rights for Wilder vs. Povetkin.

Hbo will have nothing to do with this fight.
The Russians control everything. The TV rights, the gate, the venue etc. It's total spin to say this is a win for Haymon. You never want to lose a bid. Especially when your guy has the belt.
Wilder now likely will have to travel to Russia and fight in a hostile enviornment.
It's not the end of the world catastrophe. It happens in the sport but it's a win for the Russians. I am sure they are pleased that they won and that they won with a Bid which was lower than A lot of people thought it would be to win the rights

Alexander Povetkin-Eddie Chambers was eight years ago. How many Povetkin fights has HBO purchased in the eight years since?

One ... and he failed miserably.

They aren't going to pay any money to hype Deontay Wilder.

There's no reason they wouldn't love to work with Haymon. His strategy of paying everyone highly works out pretty sweet for all parties involved besides the guys funding it.

How is it a loss for Haymon?

His fighter gets the biggest payday of his career.

Haymon doesn't have to pay the purses of the fighters (he - Haymon - gets a cut of Wilder's).

Haymon will get to pick which channel he wants to make an offer and televise the fight in the U.S. (and promote it as a PBC card) ...

And, after Wilder wins, he'll have an even more marketable fighter to promote for a September defense.

The only thing he gave up was the site. And the only people who seem to find fighting in Russia a big deal are the guys who don't like Wilder.

Would fighting in the U.S. hurt Povetkin? No.

And fighting in Russia won't hurt Wilder.

    Not at 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. (eastern)

I think the more likely channel would be one of the networks. There's an audience at that time of the day flipping through those channels looking for sports.

Well, in that case Haymon will might have to pay both Ryabinskiy for the TV rights and the TV network for putting the fight on there (it still shouldn't be a huge loss, since he is not the one paying for the fighters' purses).

I'm still pretty certain that the fight is going to happen on Showtime, or at least CBS.

Wilder better be careful over in Russia. If he beats Povetkin they might frame Wilder and say he failed his drug test. Didn't something similar to this happen with Wach and Durradola over in Russia?

Because the Russians will be the ones to turn the profit on the event. If it was a Haymon win, why did he bid why wouldn't promoters lose all their bids. People bid to "win" the rights to stage the event. To control the rights to the fight and make money. Also the winning bid was below expectations to many.
As for Wilder fighting in Russia depends I the fighter some thrive going away others don't. We'll see.

You told me I knew nothing about boxing and how it works when I told you Wilder wasn't guaranteed mega millions for a Povetkin defence in Russia or the USA, I said he wouldn't get nowhere near what you were predicting.

You were banging on about all these Russian oligarchs who would pay Wilder amazing amounts to go to Russia.

Once again you were wrong, just accept you were wrong and move on :good
