Your a good man, but you are mistaken here. When you (& I) were younger, & for most places & times in human history, people did not claim even their sexual preferences, fuhgettibout (s)expressing if they identified with a different gender! Just like you lived in Misery & Fear if you say were attracted to the "wrong" race or class, even of the opposite sex. So natural inclinations were denied because of people were legitimately repressed by Shame, Hate & lack of acceptance of who they wee. STILL many gay kids are rejected & run away say here in the USA-& it is worse & they may be hurt or worse in other nations. If someone feels strongly enough that they are a girl or boy & that does not match their plumbing... Yeah you should honor that; on the off chance that they might change their mind, let them do so. You go so far as to say you are on the other side, that generally means they feel like YOU WOULD if you magically woke up tomorrow as a woman. It would be awful to insist they are something else if that is how they are wired. You would be being a bully to put it mildly, albeit with good intentions. Just forgiving you for such a seeming betrayal would be putting a burden upon them...
You forgot the disadvantage of some reduced endurance too. Add them all up & I think it is unusual for a man to be better coming in obese. However maybe Ruiz is one of these guys-I think he is only not a "natural" HW in terms of by modern standards, I calculate/guesstimate that his Lean Body Mass *if he had no fat at all) is ~ 175-180 lbs.-likely not less than a Frazier or Joe Louis had. Ruiz might need to be this size to be more competitive against the Big Modern Men. Although I do not know IF he would have more advantages ~ 235: but it is academic, he is never likely to get there. Perhaps you agree that he would likely be better at least relative to his competition as a CW, dehydrating own to almost 200 lbs. However the money & glory is not at that division. This would also be better for his health.
"You forgot the disadvantage of some reduced endurance too." Incorrect: "more pressure on the cardiovascular system" = reduced stamina "Perhaps you agree that he would likely be better at least relative to his competition as a CW" I do not to be honest. Ruiz is probably in the Kevin Johnson situation of being naturally slow footed. Kevin said that when he started boxing he was 200 lbs and initially boxed at the amateur equivalent of cruiser. He quickly realised that this was not the division for him as the cruisers were "fast and hit hard", whereas heavies "just hit hard". So Ruiz has had far more success that he would ever have been able to at cruiser, assuming he could theoretically fight at 200 lbs without compromising his health or his motivation, which is unlikely imo. Adamek didn't have elite level cruiser skills but he still outboxed Arreola at heavy, so I'd expect Ruiz to get shut out (if not stopped) against Opetaia or Okolie down at 200 lbs.
Szpilka had much faster feet than Ruiz and was a fairly slick southpaw, Ruiz cannot do what Szpilka did with nearly as much success. Besides, Szpilka was down 6-2 on the official scorecards and Wilder's team knew that all Wilder had to do to stay ahead is keep things competitive. And then Szpilka got sparked and carried out on a stretcher, with more than 3 rounds left. Ruiz is going to need to pressure Wilder; he can't box and move and win a decision, which more fleet-footed and more skilled long range boxers have failed to do on multiple occasions. Even Fury didn't get the nod on the cards when he tried those tactics and Ruiz couldn't land a clean punch on Fury in a long range boxing match.
Whaaa? It is not true, it is a paranoid fantasy born of ignorance & hate, that ***** teachers discriminate by focusing on other's like them. Also it is bot logical that if this was true, that would mean we would later have them mostly. Since the vast majority are straight, the proportion who are teachers would not be very different from general society. I do like your first paragraph, most of what you said. As long as you do not mean to imply "normal" is better. About half of all boys who play with dolls eventually suss out as gay. I know you are away the first does not cause the second. This shows I think that while a disproportionate # of boys who have this feminine side also do, broadly speaking sexually & romantically... Many just have the creative & nurturing side. And may just be more open to other experiences.
Sorry you are RIGHT & I saw but spaced on your acknowledging reduced cardio, mea cupla! You may be correct about Ruiz. But I do not know how you could know, since if SO much lighter as a CW, he might not be at all slow footed. Since you are moving your whole body around when on your feet, unlike throwing punches-anyone dramatically heavier will be much slower! HWs dit harder than CWs overwhelmingly, right? And have better chins. You have them fight H2H, the HWs will dominate. So Ruiz will have more impact for his punches & take shots even better at CW. I have no reason to believe Ruiz at a fairly low body fat %, but not very low at 200-& not very low at all REHYDRATED, would compromise his health at CW. However could be o it physically & psychologically? I agree that given his size for so long & habits, it seems very difficult at best. It is possible Ruiz strengths & weaknesses make him more qualified at HW even though if not heavy he could easily make CW. But I do not know how we can have any confidence about this. Agreed he is not gonna do it though! Excellent posting, tell us about yourself if you like.
They are just saying who they feel like; their is already such Shame & Fear about it, & just being willing to say this means it is a very serious inclination. We were not discussing even puberty blockers or gender reassignment-which anyway is never done absent mucho counseling & evaluation. You are gonna cause much pain & resentment & alienation if you argue that they are not what they are wired to feel like inside. IF it is just a phase, let them come to that themselves...
I like how in this thread Ortiz at 38 (supposedly) was in his prime and Szpillka is a “slick southpaw”
You're right that I don't know for sure if Ruiz would be relatively slow-footed if he was 200 lbs, it's a suspicion I have. I'm sure Kevin was faster at 200 lbs than 240 but he still felt the speed deficit more at cruiser, which made him less competitive in the lighter weight class. If Ruiz naturally has slow feet then he's better off being obese and fighting at heavyweight, where he can find the slower behemoths more easily and have an even greater handspeed advantage. We've seen that he's got a very good chance of beating a far harder punching Joshua in an exchange but other career fights suggest that if you put Ruiz up against a tough fringe world level cruiser he'd struggle to land and get outpointed, whereas Joshua would match up much better with a fringe world level cruiser pointfighter than he would with say, 270 lbs Ruiz in a small ring. Ruiz has a strange mix of attributes and characteristics so conventional wisdom (lose the fat to fight smaller, less powerful opponents) doesn't necessarily apply. Ruiz has been obese since he was a child so his body has likely adjusted to it. Eddie Chambers was always chubby at heavyweight and when he dropped down to around 200 lbs and below he was very lethargic. Ruiz is a more extreme case than Chambers as he has always been obese rather than chubby. So there's reason to believe that a 33 year old Ruiz cutting to make 200 lbs would be a sick Ruiz with less energy, strength, power and punch resistance, like an older Byrd when he made 175 and got pasted by a journeyman. And being a lifelong obese man, Ruiz would find it torturous to starve himself to make cruiser, or even the 230's probably. There is a very high chance that he'd quit boxing, seeing as the motivation has been a bit thin at the best of times, while being able to eat whatever he wants in camp. Much of this is hypothetical, though former middleweight James Toney provides an example of a natural sub-cruiserweight who consistently fought at around 230 lbs obese at heavyweight, clearly for tactical reasons, and had a fair amount of success. Ruiz's two best wins have come at 268 lbs and we tend to get heavier with a higher body fat percentage as we get older. The idea that Ruiz would perform better at 215 or 230 or 245 is far more speculative as we have little or nothing to go on there, he'd have to change his style to be more evasive the more he lost weight (potential biomechanical problems and old dog new tricks) and he's stated that he feels best fighting in the 265-270 range.
That's what makes Wilder such an enigma and exciting to watch. Especially after the Fury fights; you know you're going to see guys coming in trying to bully or outbox Wilder, and it probably doesn't matter how much success they have until Wilder lands the eraser, to quote Teddy Atlas.
