The Ortiz that Wilder fought would of beat Ruiz. Ortiz is still the best fighter Wilder fought and that isn't really saying much.
The only thing you type I have a problem is you listing their height. There are weird classes in boxing not height classes and as a 20 something year old amateur Wilder was knocked stupid by a 6'0 tall fighter. Joshua who is only slightly shorter than Wilder lost to the 5'11 Ruiz. So Ruiz height is irrelevant. But that being said I agree, Wilder should and most likely would KO Ruiz unless Wilder got caught because truth be told Wilder still has a shakey chin.
I'm keen on this fight. Ruiz is a tough, game guy that has fast hands and is good in close. I want to see how Wilder handles Ruiz up close and whether he's learned any footwork to help him keep it at range. I think that if Ruiz gets in close and turns it into an inside brawl his chances are good. Ruiz is not a light hitter; he punches with authority.
Both have shown a very different side of themselves in their last three fights. I would put less weight on the career stats and look more at these recent fights. Something changed for both of them, they moved in opposite directions. He might have been the same weight but I don't believe his condition was the same.
Yes & I see no evidence Wilder has a better chin. You sparred with him? Please tell us about that, & whoever else you have trained with. An authenitic HW sparring partner must have a background & a personal story we would all love to know about!
I guess it's debatable depending on how good you think a 38 year old Ortiz was when he fought Wilder. What isn't debatable is that Ruiz has a far better resume than Ortiz with his win over Joshua, where Ortiz wouldn't even face Joshua when offered the fight before Ruiz. As to the Ruiz/Ortiz fight I've never watched the whole fight, was it really controversial? Dropped 3 times, that's a hell of a whole to dig yourself out of on the scorecards. Did Ortiz really win 8 of the other 10 rounds to scrape a narrow win?
WHile I could point you yo the RBR, where almost everyone had it a near draw, 113-112 Ruiz with one of the knockdowns making the difference, and I had it 113-112 Ortiz. Just to show you we weren't all nuts. Most of the scorers on Eye on the Ring saw it roughly the same. https://www.eyeonthering.com/boxing/andy-ruiz-vs-luis-ortiz
It was some yrs ago, I only did 2 warm up rounds with him, it was light but I was surprised of how fast he was on his feet and with his hands. He never punched me hard but I seen him beat some others up bad, he can be mean. Btw I’m 6’1 and he’s slightly taller than me. I sparred Parker also, we sparred a few times and we went hard, but without trying to hurt each other. Nice guy but I seen him beat ppl up pretty bad also. If you’re a paid sparring partner you can expect to be abused. No real fun drama stories about anyone famous unfortunately…
Thanks man! You ever think you could have beaten some of these top competitors? What type of a fighter were or are you?
@Redbeard7 you are right (or at least I also see a highly one-sided fight) that Wilder will win easily, but you do underrate Ruiz. He has fast hands, better power than given credit for, and likewise more skill than you give him credit for. His win over Joshua is a better win than any win Wilder has. He's definitely better than Szpilka who gave Wilder some issues, and Arreola who managed to last awhile. As I said, I also expect Wilder to dominate the fight, but it's still the sort of top 6 HW clash we should be pleased to see, even if it doesn't turn out very competitive.
You're not right in the head. Fury has had more 50/50's (relative to his level at that point in time, obviously) from the start of his career than any other current heavyweight.
