I really don't understand why Wilder especially wouldn't want to fight Joshua for millions of dollars.
I just don't get it. What has he got to lose ?
If he loses the fight, so what ? For millions, perhaps tens of millions, it has to be worth it.

It must be the promoters behind these guys who are putting the fights off, playing some longer game against one another.
The fighters themselves suffer because a few short years from now their careers are over.

PBC has upwards of a billion dollars invested in the current US broadcast boxing model. They are dependent on PPV remaining the ultimate destination of top fights. DAZN threaten to destroy that model and the two fights with AJ could be the pivotal point where the battle is lost. That's why they turned down the $120m in my view. They don't want that fight on DAZN.

 

Remember when PBC was supposed to be the thing because it was "free tv" and couldn't do anything wrong in some people's eye's? Now it's changed in about the same business model most wanted to see disappear, but now with major competition from streaming services. Resulting in that some of the biggest fights might never happen because of that ancient model.

 

I'm looking from the outside so I may be wrong in this but my understanding is that the free tv aspect was designed to build the audience around the fighter so that when they graduated to PPV there was sufficient interest to make the big money. That's how boxing worked in the past and to me PBC is an attempt to corner the talent side and thus work with established distributors like Fox and Showtime from a position of strength. What's interesting is that there's now a very feasible alternative model, if that succeeds it will be very difficult to sell hardcore boxing fans a PPV each month. There's a lot more at stake here than Wilder's cut of one fight.

 

Quite likely, but when it was set up and going on for 6 months to a year, people who said the current model wasn't financially sustainable (and were right of course) were called haters and worse.

Yep, this is going to become a major issue. Let's see how this plays out.

 

This is the problem with boxing. Wilder is delousional think he can make 100m in 1 fight and will take zero risk in the meantime. In reality he really could make 100m in a trilogy against Joshua(not actually reality because Joshua would dominate him)

 

And yet Haymon is supposed to be advising Wilder. Mark my words of Wilder loses in the next few fights or does not get a $100m payday. When he retires there will be a big lawsuit coming, when he realises what they are up to
