1 fight per year? What's the contract stipulation exactly? I don't see Haymon "advising" Wilder to take that fight in Germany. It likely just doesn't happen if it's not in the US.

 

The time makes sense. The location doesn't. I think they could work that out somehow. As I said to CHEF, I don't see Haymon "advising" Wilder to take that fight in Germany.

 

To be frank Haymon has 3 options:

1. Vacate the belt and have Wilder fight for PBC HW belt. Yawn.
2. Fight Povetkin, mandatory.
3. Fight Wlad in unification, will generate most interest and money by far.

It couldn't be on PPV in US so it should happen in Europe and if Showtime/HBO picks it up for Saturday noon telecast then great.

 

If the fight generates more money in Germany, then they can fight in Germany. However, I don't believe Wlad would be against fighting Wilder in the States.

come on man. Wlad's 3 fight deal with HBO, 1 fight had to be guaranteed in the states, the others didn't.

 

I suspect option 2 will happen. Wilder is still being built up and Wlad is just getting older. The fight is even bigger and Wilder gains more leverage and appeal as he beats better competition.

 

Wlad has no issue with the states. none at all:good . Im simply saying that IMO, Germany makes more sense for the fight

 

Hopkins is not a draw(although he is certainly a bigger draw than Wilder.) His fight against Calzaghe still did huge numbers at the gate. Wlad is a known commodity here and Wilder is building up a name. A fight between the two for the undisputed HW championship could do big numbers in the States. We know the earning potential in the US is higher than in Germany. It's a matter of if the fight can tap into that potential. If it can, Wlad would fight Wilder in The U.S with no problem. If not, then maybe Wilder travels to Germany, maybe he doesn't.

 

If Povetkin's people come up with the money to win the purse bid it will be in Russia. But it's a mandatory. It's not a huge money making affair. And it doesn't change what I said about Wlad. I think that is a bigger fight if it's in the US...not Germany. Wlad has a presence here and and Wilder's popularity is growing.
