Because it was in Alabama. Maybe ref was a little inexperienced too. Wilder is 6'7 and he swings from the moon gives the illusion that the opponent is in imminent danger of being seriously hurt. However in reality 9 out of 10 punches missed their mark.

For the sake of entertainment, the ref should of let Wilder land the concussive shot. For Washingtons safety, the ref IMO stopped it in time. Either way Washington was getting knocked out. Washington was on his way when Wilder casually walked up to him and then started his swimming punches lol. Wilder didnt even have no guard at that time and he wasnt in any boxing stance, despite all that Washington didnt even throw as he was dazed. The ref did well IMO.

 

It was like watching a regional level fight between 2 AmeriCans.

Completely changed my view of the stoppage. Washington is clearly done.

I thought it was a very premature stop, but I don't think so anymore.

I might even say it was a good job by the ref. A couple of those hits look much scarier from that angle.

When Wilder won the fourth round I knew Wilder was going to come on strong and overwelm Washington. Wilder is very good at figuring out his opponents.

 

Well i thought it was a bit quick but as soon as the ref stepped in the cameras followed Wilder, 10 seconds later Washington came in to view and he was still wobbling around on the other side of the ring. So quick stoppage but quick by about 5 seconds and 1 more punch.

In all fairness I think the one thing Wilder does have is ring IQ. I think Wilder was trying to figure out when to time the perfect punch during the fight.
