American Boxing fans are not stupid, even the casuals that make up the bulk of the numbers. They love a knock out, we all do, but they love competition and Wilder was fed over 30 complete bums one after the other. Somewhere in his first 15-20 fights he should be making moves, fighting a couple of recognisable names in fights that are deemed a challenge, 20-25 fights he should be making moves on getting himself into the top rankings and making his move for world championships.

The more he does this, and the more he is promoted, the more popular he becomes, more and more fans start to take interest in this American knock out artist and his ambitions on world titles and are willing to watch him on his journey. All of a sudden hes got some real tests coming up, big night for Wilder, stick it on PPV and we are all now on a big journey together.

Alas, he did none of this. He stuck to facing his bums, Finkel stuck to keeping his name on the down low so none of the heavyweight sharks came swimming his way (we saw what happened when Wlad swam close, Finkel panicked) and he never built up a fanbase. Like i said at the start American Boxing fans, even the casuals, are not stupid and if all they wanted was some idiot smashing another idiot they will go on youtube and put on some bumfights or instant Karma videos.

If Finkel and Wilder had of done this properly from the start he would either of been found out as no more dangerous than a gatekeeper or he would be a really big star by now. But going into hiding for a number of years then bursting into public light all of a sudden claiming everybody is ducking you and screaming loads of disgusting things in interviews isnt going to get the job done.

Wouldn't that be either Charles Martin, Bruce Seldon, John Ruiz, Greg Page or James Smith?

So far, most of Wilders 40 opponents have consisted of unranked, out of shape, career cruiser weights. 300 lb plus, morbidly obese scrubs who started out at Supermiddleweight. 40 plus high blood pressured and heart conditioned, passed to fight 24 hrs before the first bell, never won a national amateur championship Cuban, a Bermane Stiverne in their rematch who should never have been ranked in the top 10 of the WBC (Wilder Bodyguard Council) and resembled a bloated corpse rather than a Heavyweight title challenger.

Now, Wilder is fighting a manic depressive, (former) coke addicted, former 380 lb couch potato, who is fighting Wilder after a near 3 year after fight party who has come back against the second best cruiserweight in Albania in Seferi and a guy who last time round got starched by Kevin Johnson in Pianetta. After all that, what the **** is there not to like about Wilder?

If Fury turns up on December 1st (hmmmmm.....) in the same pisspoor shape as against Pianetta and Wilder doesn't put him away in the first half of the fight, not only does Wilder not deserve credit, he will deserve a full on shitstorm of beer, nandos and **** to be perfectly honest....

Everyone loves a knockout artist but unlike Mike Tyson Wilder looks very sloppy and his opponents are third rate bums.

Well said, i must admit my knowlage of the american casual is limited and was probably bias in that i thought it was all about the KO and highlight reel. Do you think the lack of domestic opposition for Wilder made building a following harder? Who could he of faced domestically in his first 30 fights that would of provided a big enough platform/ enough competition? Toney maybee?

Avoiding the best in the division your whole career doesn't make you a star.
