Saying that he instructed his corner to never throw the towel in for him (something I feel many fighters may say it’s called pride) and that Breland was influenced by a fighter trained by Sugarhill Fury’s trainer. Who was yelling stop the fight in the crowd. for real this is lame. Breland should walk away. Losing respect for Wilder with this stupid outburst
Breland was the only one in that corner worth a damn. I hope he walks away. Mark deserves better than this.
Breland was a boxer, and knew better than anyone else what condition Wilder was in, and that Wilder would not quit. He saved Wilder from himself and that idiot Deas.
I am losing respect for him too, oh sorry, I forgot, I never had respect for him in the first place! My bad.
Sounds like he might have been pushed. Poor treatment of the guy. Scapegoating him doesn't bode well for Wilder's (already meagre) chances in a rematch. I appreciate that he wanted to go out on his shield if it came to that, but he should reflect on where he came up short instead of overstating the importance of the stoppage (which had become inevitable). To have any kind of chance in a third fight, he has to accept the realities of the situation. Fury had pressed the fight for 7 rounds and still looked fresh as the proverbial daisy. Wilder was battered, sluggish, unstable, outboxed and outfought and was not going to find his (usually trusty) equalizer.
Wilder was being too brave for his own good. Hasn’t got a clue on how to box and was absolutely lost in there against a strong and heavy Tyson fury, Breland saved him massively.
Deas is a glorified PE Coach. He is no more a boxing trainer than anyone on here. None of this matters. It’s too late for Wilder to change coaches and fix all his problems. Wilder can’t fight and has zero actual boxing skills. None. He is a sitting duck at this point and Fury is going to shatter that Glass Jaw in a matter of minutes in the third fight.
To be honest, the referee should have done far more, he literally stood there watching from a few feet away and as far as I know he didn't go to Wilders corner and say anything. Normally if a fighter is taking a pounding, the referee will go over and say "you need to show me something or I'll stop the fight". We have to remember Wilder had hit the deck twice, the ropes held him up another time and Fury was mauling Wilder round after round. Was there a Ringside Dr? Was he watching the fight? Wilders ear was pouring with blood and he didn't take a look? He didn't think "that man is bleeding from his ear, maybe I should nip to the corner between rounds and see what's going on" It was left to Breland, Breland made a decision nobody with a brain cell would disagree with yet he will lose him job and get truck loads of abuse from clueless boxing casuals who wanted to see somebody get seriously hurt.
Have to add.. do we remember When Wilder was wobbled and hurt against Ortiz in the first fight, between the referee and the ringside Dr they had enough about them to check Wilder at the start of a round. Gave him extra time to recover, made sure he was OK, this time around, ear bleeding, getting mauled and they do nothing. This wasn't about Breland.
Mark Breland Ex kronk fighter Disrespected by a bunch of dossers Sad times, mark is the only one with a clue
Why the hell did Mark Ireland have a towel? Shouldn't that be the exclusive decision of the Head Trainer? Can the Cutman or S&C coach throw a towel too??
As soon as I heard who the referee would be, in the week prior to the fight, I rolled my eyes. Kenny is a Haymon gopher, he was there to do what he was paid for, i.e. to assist Wilder as much as he could get away with. Fury was smart in that he stated he had no issue with the appointment of Bayless, even putting a little charm offensive on him when he entered the dressing room to give his chat; he knew it was better to try to charm Bayless into forgetting whose side he was supposed to be on than to just hiss and moan. He didn't ultimately manage to sway Kenny into impartiality (see the pathetic point deduction for evidence of that), but Fury's attempt to mitigate his presence was nonetheless wily.
Did Wilder want to get hurt more than that? The fact is he could not survive the K.O. in that fight and he couldn't do anything to trouble Fury.
