I've never taken notice of the Jay Deas character before. Now he's in my consciousness as a complete idiot.
Wilder was out on his feet, stumbling about. A punching bag. Anything else but stopping the fight would have been lunacy.
It was a shame to see that. I think his biggest mistake is taking interviews before he's had time to process the loss so he's coming off worse than he would if he'd given it a few weeks. He's a good lad, I think it's just still too raw for him at the moment.
Wilder could only wish he had half of Breland's boxing talent. Breland did the right thing stopping it. His fighter's legs seemed gone and he was bleeding out of his ear. The trainer's probably can't tell whether the blood is coming from inside the ear canal or what. Wilder's merry band of yes men would have let Wilder take a life threatening pummeling. Fury might not be a huge puncher, but he is a 270 pound man, and Wilder's defense sucks.
Breland is a damned hero. He made the right decision and saved not only Wilder's health, but his ego too. Thanks to Breland, Wilder can formulate an excuse in his head that if it wasn't for Breland, he would have rallied and won. It's pure fiction, but fighter's need that. Sometimes the truth isn't good enough. Sometimes, people need more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded. So Wilder will blame him, because he can take it. Because that's what has to happen. Becasue he's the hero Wilder needed, but not the one he deserves.
