Even US fans know he's just a paper titlist who is over protected which is why he draws so little for his fights. Winning the title upped his earnings but he's still likely making peanuts compared to some others in the division.

Wilder didn't even headline a card until his title fight came.

Where did the $500k figure come from? If it's just net worth.com or some such site you have to understand that is just a guess. It's a few people sitting around going "he's made like 3million fighting, but he's probably dumb and spends poorly ... We will just say $500k."

My best guess ... Somewhere between 1 million in debt and 1 million in net worth. You never really know.

It's considered a recovery aid that helps in bouncing back from hard training because of the painkilling and relaxation qualities, along with reducing anxiety and fear. That's paraphrasing from WADA and other testing bodies.

I can see why people may not think it should be banned, but you can't pick and choose which banned substances are worth acknowledging and which aren't. It's been on the list long enough that testing positive for it is inexcusable.

Marijuana is one of the drugs that induces paranoia, so it affects people differently, I wouldn't always say it relaxes people. Certain strains are very potent and can cause side effects. And once it's legal here in California that **** will come off the banned substance list, at least here anyways. But Meldonium is a whole different story now!:deal

And since I acknowledged it a banned substance, I don't think I need you breaking it down for me like I don't already know. It shouldn't be banned as there really is no physical edge that you can benefit from. If anything you will gain weight from it as it causes hunger.

A bit of a low blow there drenlou (and I say this is a friendly manner ...) Please let's avoid talking about that nameless fighter everywhere. This is a Wilder thread.

Re: OP Arreola is a weak opponent at this stage of his career, but as I honestly don't know if Wilder had a better option, I cannot criticize him.

Like it or not, Povetkin is the one who failed the drug test, causing this mess.

Wilder fighting a drugs cheat now. Not surprising, as long as he can HAND PICK who he fights he's happy.

bottom line is arreola never was that very good, period.

but if chris goes all out he has a good chance at catching wilder with a big punch that puts him to sleep. he can't fight from the outside because wilder will get him at some point with that big right. chris gotta jump on hin from the get go.no way he wins a decision anyway.he's got to.just go for broke

    in my oppinion

Jennings, Washington and Ortiz were all available if wanted them. So were plenty of others. Team Wilder have deliberately s****ed the bottom of the barrel. Again.

This. NO EXCUSE for this fight. Can't defend this choice. Embarrassing to the fans.

Most of Wilders fights for many many years were off TV bouts on untelevised cards for next to nothing. He didn't start making okay paydays ($10,000 or more) until he started boxing on a few Showtime Extreme undercards.

His first real check came last year when he fought Stiverne. After taxes and all ... he probably took home $300,000 for each fight last year.

That's why the $5 million payday this year was so important.

Plus, Wilder spent about a month with his team in Europe training for it, because he wanted to acclimate himself with a time zone that was closer to Russia's time zone.

I don't know about you, but if I took about 10 people overseas ... forget training expenses ... just feeding them and paying for hotels ... the bills would be pretty huge.

People joke about the guy because they want him to fight "top names" ... even though you can currently count the top names in the division on about four fingers (including Wilder) ...

But Wilder is a fighting champion. He isn't a superstar. He didn't start out like Joshua with huge deals making boatloads.

Wilder came up the hard way in the sport. He fought for seven years before he got a title shot. He won a belt last year. He wants to fight every couple months on TV and get more exposure ... and people just won't get off his @ss.

Povetkin blowing that fight was terrible for Wilder. But Povetkin's promoter sued Don King (Jones' promoter) for millions (AND WON) when Guillermo Jones tested positive for PEDs. Now Wilder is suing the same promoter who sued King because Povetkin did the exact same thing to him.

I hope Wilder gets paid for the Povetkin fight. Wilder lost money on the whole thing ... and he doesn't have a lot as it is.

And if Wilder had it his way, he'd be defending the title regularly four times a year. (He fought three times last year even after taking time off with a broken hand. And he'll fight at least three times this year even though he had a fight called off.)

You have to go back DECADES to find a heavyweight champion who defended four times a year.

People should be rooting for this guy (along with Joshua and Fury) to lift this division out of the gutter.

But all they do is make thread after thread bashing him. It boggles my mind. It really does.

First of all, Ortiz WASN'T AVAILABLE.

Ortiz is fighting Ustinov in the WBA tournament (and Ortiz is promoted by Golden Boy, who won't do business with Al Haymon and certainly won't help Wilder out of a jam since Wilder went with Haymon after Golden Boy and Haymon split).

Ortiz was as available as Joe Frazier was. (He's dead, if you don't get the sarcasm.)

And Bryant Jennings hasn't WON A FIGHT IN TWO YEARS and was knocked out in his last fight.

I would've preferred Wilder fight Washington, too. That's who I thought it would be. But, Wilder wants to fight every couple months. Washington is certainly going to get his shot.

    If not now, soon.

I think GBP would see letting him fight Ortiz as a favour. They'd expect their guy to win so would definitely consider crossing the picket line IMO.

In reality Jennings is a much, much better opponent than Arreola and you know it. Jennings would be a massive favourite in a match up between the two.
