Has any other champ in history accomplished such feature?
Wilder is about to become a member of a very elite "4 voluntaries' club! :scaredas::shock: :scaredas:

this thread has already been made.

Larry Holmes had a lot of vulontary defences, and many in a row.

Still, it's telling because he should have fought his mando a long time ago.

Someone (it may have been you) started this same thread a week or so ago. The answer to the question is Larry Holmes made a combined 20 successful defenses of his WBC and then IBF titles.

During that time, I believe he defended against TWO (meaning 18 weren't) mandatories.

The two mandatories came against Earnie Shavers in 1979 and Gerry C00ney in 1982.

He had another mandatory against Greg Page, but he gave up the WBC belt rather than fight Page. (That's when the IBF formed and named Holmes their champ. And Holmes made no mandatories as the IBF champ.)

If you're counting successive fights without a mandatory, Holmes fought seven voluntary defenses between Shavers and C00ney. And Holmes made nine voluntary defenses after C00ney.

So Wilder has A LONG way to go. He's about 14 voluntary defenses short of Holmes.

And going back even further, how many "mandatories" or number-one contenders Joe Louis faced in his 25 defenses is another matter altogether. (Not many.)

    Should have?
Wilder won the belt in 01 of 2015. His mandatory at the time was Jennings, who chose to fight Klitchko instead.
Povetkin´s KO over Mike Perez in 05 of 2015 made him the mandatory. While it has been over a year now, they were scheduled to fight.
So realistically speaking, Wilder never did anything wrong. The WBC ordered a purse bid and Wilders team had no issues with it.
Of course Wilder could have fought him sooner but there was no rush from his team nor from Povetkins.
Wilder is an active fighter, that´s why he has had so many voluntaries. And even if the Povetkin fight is still a go, they will likely squeeze another fight in before that.

There are some real stupid comments on this site, this is one of them. Arreola is a bad opponent, real bad. No one is denying it. But to say foolish things like this just lowers the credibility level of the site. Please stop.
